I am not sure if something is not working with my Yahoo or if you guys are just really busy and quite!! The last 3 days or so I only have a few messages every time I log on. I am waiting on pins and needles for insurance........They have had my claim since Wednesday, the guy originally told me that they have to make a decision in 48 hours. Yesterday they told me in would be next Tuesday.......but I wonder if their saying that so I stop calling them everyday I need to keep busy here guys....PLEASE, start a calcium or protein war or something would ya??? Guest guest Posted January 17, 2003 Report Share Posted January 17, 2003 Well, I've been busy, planning an anniversary party for 100 people for tomorrow night. There are 4 couples celebrating (Fred and I included) with a total of 91 years of marriage! Whew! On the WLS side...I talked to my old retired surgeon last weekend. He actually called me back on a Saturday, from his home! Talk about follow-up care! He told me that the surgery I actually had was a proximal RNY, they just didn't call it that then, but the procedure was the same. He told me where I can go to get all my surgical records, which I want. I talked to him about the gastric reflux. He said I should not be suffering from it as I do, and I need to tell my PCP that I want a new scope, and a biopsy taken. It's probably H. Pylori, but since I've already had that and been treated for it, a simple blood test won't tell them anything. From what I understand, once you test positive, you ALWAYS test positive, and a biopsy is the only way to make a definite diagnosis. I've called my PCP and made an appointment for next Tuesday to discuss this with him. Since I'm HMO, (and he's an idiot) he'll probably argue with me about it. But I know when they did the scope last year, they did not do a biopsy. They looked for ulcers. Well, he can just argue. I'm hardheaded. Last night I had a gastric episode where my husband thought he was going to have to take me to the hospital. The first in many years so severe. I puked bile for over an hour, and it was beginning to look like blood was mixed in before I stopped. This was 45 minutes after taking my prescribed Tagamet, and an hour after eating a very healthy, low carb, high protein dinner of low-fat quiche (I know it was low fat. I made it, and used low fat ingredients). The only carbs in it really was the crust, and I scraped the filling off of most of it, and just ate filling. I've been putting off going in and asking for tests, but last night was the icing on the cake, so to speak. I've already faxed my release for records request to the hospital, and they're getting them pulled for me to pick up, hopefully on Monday. It's so great that you were able to get ahold of your surgeon. He must have been way ahead of his time, because you have what's considered today's standard surgery. I know you said that you don't have a staple line disruption, but was that determined with the scope or an upper GI? I'm going > better armed this time. > ************************* When I had an upper GI and found the SLD, the radiologist told me that she wasn't familiar with gastric bypass and really didn't know what to look for. As I was able to see the screen when the liquid was going through, and she was sort of talking me through it, saying " This is the esophagus " etc., I knew exactly what I was seeing. First, it sort of collected for a second in a little pool (the new pouch), then there was a thin line, and it just dumped into and filled up the large stomach. It was pretty obvious, even for a non-medical person like me. You just have to know what to look for. Of course, my surgeon confimed it. This is not to say that it is a SLD, but the acid reflux thing has me stumped. There are cases where the body compensated by creating a new stomach out of a portion of intestine. Perhaps as part of its attempt to regenerate, there's a way for the pouch to " teach " itself to create stomach acid. I don't know, just throwing ideas out there.
