Hi , I am 14 months postop now but i tell ya I had BAD DEPRESSION

after my surgery. I slept and cried almost the whole winter away. I was happy

about losing weight but I could help from being say, lonely and very depressed.

I

think alot of it is 1) the drastic changes that take place in our lives and 2)

as we lose weight we release estrogen back into our blood that was being

storeed in the fat cells giving us a PMS sort of thing going on. I went thru

hell

but it lessened and lessened until it was gone and now I have my normal

everyday crap to deal with. I have always had a bit of depression and anxiety so

I

was a good candidate to have it bad after surgery. I now take only a little bit

of meds for depression and anxiety. Less than I took even before my

surgery. It will pass, hang in there, get some help ( don't be shy) it is only

temporary

Thank God. But you are definately not alone. Hope you get better soon so you

can enjoy the wonderful new life you have started for yourself with your WLS

:) (((( BIG HUGS)))))

, I read that one of the side effects of the surgery was Depression.

I haven't experienced it as I was already on anti-depressants. Glad you got

some help.

Hi, I'm a newly joined member and I'm grateful to have found you

all. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery, Rouen Y bypass done

laparscopically. I have been suffering from severe depression since

the surgery. it got to a state where I had to seek medical help to

get some meds to help. I just wondered if anyone else had gone

through this, for how long and if they could offer any encouragement

or helpful advice?

Thanks in advance,

Robin,

Your message spoke right to my heart. Thank you for talking about

it. I knew, from the pre-op classes, that there can be some blues

and depression. Having had depression I figured I knew what that

would look like, but this has been so much darker and harder.

I'm grateful to hear that you're back to " normal " and like anyone,

have life to deal with, but that the lows aren't the same anymore.

Thank you ever so much.

(and thanks for the hugs!)
