Guest guest
I was just reading your post again where you said that with the rny your pyloric valve doesn't function and the body DOES NOT absorb fats with rny for the first 18 months or so. I know we have to be more careful with our eating as time goes on but I was wondering why we will start absorbing fats after 18 months? I'll have to ask my dr about it when I see him later this month but could you explain this more if you have time. Thanks Debbie for the the information. Bridget Northam I'm not sure I understand. Guest guest
Dear Bridget, I'm not sure about how long we actually malabsorb fats (I said 18 months to hedge my bets because I think I read somewhere that after that time we go back to some form of normalcy, though our absorption is never quite the same). I do know that my surgeon stresses that we should not use any vitamins/supplements in gelcaps because they are fat soluble and we don't absorb fat (is his explanation). For a more detailed explanation, I would see if Dr. Nestor is lurking around and could possibly answer this better than I can. Otherwise, I'll try to get a more scientific explanation from others way more knowledgeable than me... Stay tuned... live each day like it's your last... love like you've never been hurt...
