Kim,

Thanks for the information. I was diagnosed in 1997, so have had the

redness, swelling, etc., but NEVER the buggy feeling. I don't like it!

Thanks again,

I finally read the emedicine article that someone

here posted

http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic375.htm (I

think it was Connie):

Under Methotrexate/Interactions, here's what it

says:

Oral aminoglycosides may decrease absorption and

blood levels of concurrent oral MTX; charcoal

lowers MTX levels; coadministration with

etretinate may increase hepatotoxicity of MTX;

folic acid or its derivatives contained in some

vitamins may decrease response to MTX;

coadministration with NSAIDs may be fatal;

indomethacin and phenylbutazone can increase MTX

plasma levels; may decrease phenytoin serum

levels; probenecid, salicylates, procarbazine,

and sulfonamides, including TMP-SMZ, may increase

effects and toxicity of MTX; may increase plasma

levels of thiopurines.

I think it's interesting that it also says Folic

Acid decreases MTX's response. I take both vioxx

and folic acid... forgot to mention this to my

rheum last thurs.

, when I was on metho, they made me stop taking vioxx a month before I

could start the metho....Said there were fatalities related to anti

inflamatories and mehto... I was going to an overly causious dr at the

time....

There have been many arguments over the folic acid and metho....All my drs

agreed that I should take it.... It did help with the side effects, but maybe

that is why the metho didn't work for me... don't know...

HI ALL

THE OTHER INTERESTING THING THAT THIS SAYS IS coadministration with NSAIDs may be fatal. NSAIDS INCLUDES, NAPROXSEN, VIOXX, CLELEBREX, ASPRIN, AND ANY OTHER ANIT INFLAMMATORY.ASK YOUR DRS ABOUT THIS.
