Guest guest
Hi Crystal, No, you're not going crazy! I'm nineteen days post-op and feel great too. My husband (had surgery on Oct 21st) complained of fatigue and can't keep a lot of stuff down, especially dairy products and has thrown up several times. He has lost 45 lbs. Everything seems to agree with me too. My biggest concern is not getting enough fluids. I wake up in the middle of the night with extreme cotton mouth, and can't carry on a long conversation without my mouth getting so dry, that it's hard to swallow. I'm used to gulping my drinks and it's hard to learn to sip slowly all the time. The other day I tried my favorite diet soda and it tasted like crap! So I drink tea, water and a drink I found at wal-mart. It's called Fruit 2 O and it's sweetened with Splenda. It comes in 4 or 5 different flavors, but I like the lemon the best. I like to add a litte lemon juice to it. I'm not doing very well on getting all of my protein. Can't seem to find any supplements that I can tolerate. There are some Atkins bars I like, they have about 21g per bar, but I can't even eat 1/4 of one at a time. Not going to worry too much about it now, will try to get more in when I can eat more meat. I like refried beans with cheese too. I add louisana hot sause to mine. Very good!! Guess we should be thankful that we're the lucky ones huh! Leah Booth PS I have a daughter named Hannah too! And two more daughters, named Brittany and . > First of all my husband has made SEVERAL comments that he thinks the dr > missed my stomach and hit my brain during the bypass....I have said and done the > STUPIDIST stuff lately!! > > Second of all..When I was pregnant the only reason I knew was because of the > positive test until I was able to feel her move..I felt TOOOO good...I feel > the same way now. Guest guest
Thanks leah for your response. It makes me feel a little better knowing im not alone in this. My main thing is I am scared I will be able to overeat and right back where i started from. However, my husband, daughter and I went to picadilly for supper last night and he got the baked fish so i could have some of it and i got some mashed potatoes and for the first time I found my full point...Not because I ate alot cause I only ate about 2/3 ounce of fish and maybe 1/2 ounce of potatoes...but maybe because the fish was really the first thing that had REAL consistency to it...the potatoes are pretty smooth and I am sure go through the stomach pretty fast...(Im assuming..lol) I have the same problem with the cotton mouth on the days I dont' get my water in like yesterday. The ONLY thing I drink is water or protein drink because its soo hard for me to get all my water in if not..I have been doing good with the exception of yesterday and getting at least 70 ounces of water a day..usually 80...DONT ASK HOW!!! LOL I Literally have a water bottle with me at ALL times except the 30 min before and after I eat... Good Luck to you. Guest guest
Build your good habits early on.... I've read that the stomach pouch softens and expands slightly, which takes place at around 6-9 months... at which point, if you " test " the limits of your new pouch .. you could end up regaining a regular appetite. For me the key has been NOT test those limits very often. http://www.sabariatric.com/keys_to_success1.htm " >Keys to Success Here is the site with the info. Guest guest
Crystal, you just addressed my worst fear....overeating and going back where I started from. It terrifies me. It's in my head every day, and at least for now it's a motivating factor in watching how much I eat, or how often. But after the new-ness wears off, I am scared. There aren't any guarantees with this. It's left up to us in the long run. Thanks for saying it out loud. I thought it was just me. Joan C, Calif. Guest guest
Joan and Crystal, I haven't even had surgery yet and this is my big fear. I feel like this is my last chance, and what if it doesn't work? I'm still going to go for it and do the best that I can with everything that I have learned here, and learn from the process....but I still have that fear of failure inside of me surgery date 2-5-04 -- Re: SouthernAngel not going crazy!!
