Hi ,

congrats on getting a surgery date. Mine is for 2-5-04. You might be

feeling a bit like me....it's soooo far away it seems. I keep telling

myself that whatever date I got is the one that is right for me. And I am

trying to stay focused on learning as much as I can until it gets here.

yes I do keep saying it is so far away I want a closer date,but it don't get

any closer. I have so much I need to do it isn't funny.I need to find a

place I can get protein shakes and stuff like that before I come home from

the horspital.( as my hubby calls them). how long have you had your date for

surgery? our are close so we can keep in touch with each other to see how we

are getting along.now I have this date it is so for real now. may I ask

where you are having yours done ? mine is in Peoria,Il. with doctor

Marshall. all I can say now is WOW it is coming true and now I am nervous..I

have so much I need to learn before surgery ......

Hi ,

I live in Fremont, CA and am having my surgery done in Burlingame by Dr

Wetter.

I know what you mean about being nervous, so am I, and I am trying to keep

focused on my surgery date, without driving everyone else around me nuts.

My boyfriend and family have been really supportive about it, but I don't

want them to get to the point where they tell me to get over it already. I

try to keep it in perspective, but it is so hard sometimes. I have a sister

I have not told about it, and I am not going to tell her. I have always

been " bigger " then her, and she takes great pride in that. I don't want to

get into a contest with her, so I am just doing what I need to do, and

keeping my mouth shut when she is around.

I am 44 years old and have a 17 month old grandson. I want to be able to

get on the floor and play with him, and be able to get back up again!!!

There are so many things I look forward to.

I have only tried one protein shake and it was carb smart. The chocolate

tasted pretty good to me, but you may feel differently about it.

, I don't know your doctor, but had a best friend that lived in

Fremont, and my dad lives in Broadway Burlingame. Anyway, your post

sounded like I could have written it. There were people I didn't tell, and

some I waited until a week before. People do get weird about this surgery.

My sister commented 2 days after the surgery that " now I'm going to be the

fat sister. " Everything that comes out of her mouth is a barb....so I would

assume she means I was the fat sister. She probably weighed 10# less than

me when I had the surgery. Go figure! Even though I explained my medical

reasons, all she can see is I'll be thinner than her. Keeping your mouth

shut with her may be really smart.

I have an 18-month old granddaughter, your comment that you " want to be

able to

get on the floor and play with him, and be able to get back up again!!! " is

word for word identical to one of the reasons I'd written in January as to

the reasons I wanted the surgery. I had to pull it out of my book to see.

It's definitely a huge motivator!

hi Joan,

It does sound like we have a lot in common. My grandson is a huge motivator

as well as just wanting to feel better and be more active. We go to

Sacramento a lot, and I want to feel good enough to walk through old Sac

without having to stop or be too tired. You know, all those kinds of things

that you might think twice about doing right now.

, I agree. I othen have thought that I'd like to try

something.....only if I didn't weigh so much. My husband just got 2 jet

skis, and I told him, no until I get weight off. Ditto for riding a

motorcycle.
