If the body does not have enough protein it will concentrate on only necessary functions and hair and nails are not included in this group. I lost a lot of hair but once my protein levels increased, then there was some regrowth. I have also heard that zinc helps too, but I found that the protein was the best way to improve things by helping to prevent hair loss as well as promoting new growth. Guest guest
hey , I liked hearing that enough protein will help prevent the hair loss. I'm approaching hair loss time , I believe , and really hoping it doesn't happen. Maybe it won't since I've recently noticed my nails are stronger than they've ever been in my life. I'm enjoying a shake every morning with a scoop of designer protein....I figure it to be around 50 gms., made with milk. Just sharing. Guest guest
hey , I liked hearing that enough protein will help prevent the hair loss. Me too...I'm more worried about that then the scar from having surgery...LOL I've finally gotten my hair long and I love it...I am going to have it french braided for surgery so its out of the way and easy for the first few days but I really dont want to cut it down the road. I'll be making sure I do my protein and take care of myself because even if its not true...it can t hurt!!! ~~* AJ *~~ BMI 59 Surgery date 7/24/01 going self pay - Dr Baltasar Spain Check out the Bellingham Support for WLS WWW.lookin2bthin.homestead.com
Guest guest
Hi ! I've been taking zinc everyday and my hair is falling out now. It started at about 3.5 months out. Definitely going to get some Nixoin. Someone told me too that Boitin is supposed to help with hair loss and you can get it at GNC. Guest guest
Joann, I'm very new here and it is rather like learning a new language Could you please explain what " designer protein " is and where one obtains it? Thank you, Lee " I'm enjoying a shake every morning with a scoop of designer protein....I figure it to be around 50 gms., made with milk. Guest guest
, My hair loss began at 3 1/2 months and just stopped at 6 months. I had a full head of thick hair and its pretty thin now although you wouldnt be able to tell.....thank God it stopped! But, I would wear a wig if I went bald just to be thin like this! I used Nioxin shampoo and conditioner for awhile....didnt notice that it made much difference so Im just out 20 bucks! Ive heard others say extra zinc and upping the protein works but mine stopped before i could try that. You wont go bald....dont worry! Guest guest
AJ, a french braid for surgery is a great idea. I wish I had done something like that to mine because it REALLY bothered me those first few days after surgery. I had trouble getting a bath and was really hot most of the time. Best of luck. Joann in Mobile P.S. I think that good cry you had is a good sign. I know I had one too when I realized it was going to happen. It's such a brave thing for us to do - to make up our minds to go thru with this surgery. And that good, positive attitude is SO important. I tried to keep it going and I really believe that's a big part of why I did so well. Even one of the nurses secretly told me that they all noticed it and believed I was going to have a great outcome. I'll be praying and pulling for you! Guest guest
My protein intake is fabulous and my levels good. Hair loss is common after any sort of surgery--not certain that protein is the only culprit. So not sure how to improve on already great protein intake. Over 5mgs of zinc is a certain vomit for me. sigh ----- Original Message ----- > > > At nearly 6 months out my short thin hair is thinning even more. Guest guest
Thanks Judie. I was born with a bald spot near my right temple so have no desire to see that spread. I have the shampoo.. have no idea if it works, Eat tons of protein daily. Zinc causes vomiting for me. I have very fine thin hair to start with. in Seattle ----- Original Message ----- > , > My hair loss began at 3 1/2 months and just stopped at 6 months. Guest guest
My doctor's said the key to prevent hair loss was to get enough protein, they recommended 75 gms a day. Other doctor's vary. So tomorrow when I begin to eat solid foods, protein is going to be #1. Joan C, Calif. LAP RNY 11/18/03 Dr. Higa, Fresno, CA 282/275/260/???
