Guest guest
I was off work for a total of 6 weeks, was trying for seven, but the dr. said I was doing great...started to really feel like myself three weeks after the surgery...before that I wanted to drink water, go for a few short walks and nap...got so used to naps thought I wouldn't be able to make it thru the day with out one, but at 9 weeks, I am down 53 pounds and feelin' like a million bucks and I actually think that I look that good too... Guest guest
Hi! I had my open RNY on Friday, August 1st; I went back to work (Tuesday, August 19th) the day after the staples and G-tube were removed. I sit at my desk in front of a computer all day long, but I probably should have waited another couple of days. I found that I was easily fatigued for several weeks, often lying down after work and napping for an hour or two. I was in the hospital for 6 days; I spent an extra night in ICU because I had difficulty coming out of anesthesia after surgery - apparently, I kept forgetting to breathe (until somebody threatened to put me back on the ventilator)! The most common complication, which, natch, I got, is leakage from the incision; I started leaking on Aug. 18th. After about 3 weeks, the leakage area had puffed out and reddened; my surgeon's office cleaned out gunk and packed the area with gauze. A week later, after a 2nd packing, my surgeon himself cleaned out the area thoroughly, but did not repack. End of leakage problem and that part of the incision quickly healed. Hope this helps! Good luck to you and Happy Holidays! > just a couple of questions. how man days were you down? work and > play wise. what were some of the complications you might have had? > how many days in hospital? how long before the return to work?
