Hope, this sounds like a fistula. It's not common, but it does and can

occur. It makes sense that you're now able to eat more, too, as a result of

this. Hopefully, your doctor can fix it, and you'll be good to go again.

But, it's your body's way of trying to return to normal. I'm not a medical

person, so perhaps some others can give you a more detailed explanation.

Good luck,

in NJ

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I have posted, but as

everyone knows the holidays were very busy. The reason I'm posting

is something is goin wrong with my stomach, for the past three weeks

I choke in my sleep two or three times a night, so I went to my lung

Dr. and he thinks it acid reflux, which is something I have had even

before my GB. Well the thing of it is, is that before Thanksgiving I

was in the hospital with really bad pain in the stomach so they did

the scope and found a hole in my pouch going into my old stomach,

and my surgeon wants to fix it so I have an appt. with him this

coming wed. however something new is going on which started this

past week, I am able to eat normal just like I did before the

surgery, and I always feel like I'm starving, I can eat a full

sandwich, or a full plate of whatever I'm having, which before this

past week if I even tried to do that I would get sick. I am on

Nexium for the acid reflux, which I still do the choking even after

taking it, my surgeon told me that he is worried that the acid from

the old stomach may come into the pouch which (duh) I believe its

doing a pretty good job of it. So my question to you all is this has

anyone ever had anything like this happen to you guys? and if so

what if anything did your Drs. do? I'm really getting worried I have

gained 3lbs this past week (not good)I'm not sure but to me it seems

like that the hole may have gotten bigger, if any of you have any

advice PLEASE HELP.

Thank you

Hope, it sounds like a total staple line disruption. Your doctor found a

small hole, now that hole has opened up and is allowing the stomach

acids up....and food DOWN! The answer is....to have the stomach

transected....and perferable the part not being used....removed. OR at

least tucked under well away from the new pouch. Then you will be right

as rain.

Hope,

I cannot tell you about having a hole since I've not experienced it. I will

tell you what I know about choking at night. I have done it off and on since

my surgery. It can be very scarey waking up choking and the acid burns

horribly. Something my surgeon told me in the beginning was to sleep propted

up a bit. I have always used two large, firm pillows...I guess I slip off

sometimes..lol. Also, if I remember correctly, we are not to eat or drink

two hours before sleep. I don't remember the exact on this. I am bad about

drinking right up until I go to bed. I also take Nexium...20mg before

bedtime.

I hope you are able to get the hole fixed soon.

My staple line disrupted at 5 yrs. I didn't have immediate wt gain (but I

take a LOT of protein to protect me). My symptom was the sudden pain of

acid. Like none, then BLAM! A pouch full.

I could eat a fair amount of food, like child sized, not brand new postie

sized. It didn't increase especially while I waited for paperwork games (4

months). I regained 12# overall, and lost it in 2 weeks after revision.

Which was 3 yrs ago this month!

I was very well vitamined & proteined & mentally prepared for my revision.

Other than the fatigue, it was imply no big deal. Far more stress in waiting

for the ins approval to fix it. NOT fixing it was simply not an option.

Dawn, this is not normal. You need a second opinion. My 2 cents.
