Guest guest
I have surgery Monday and today and tomorrow is clear liquid days. I am having such a hard time. I went to Target earlier and saw all the candy and the good foods and wanted to die. I know I can go a few weeks or months without regular food, but I can't go forever not having regular food. I have had a headache all day and I am just not sure if I can do this. I know I will, but right now I am having so many negative thoughts about this. I know I am just hungry and worried and scared to death. Did any of you feel so lost before surgery? Sherrie
Guest guest
Sherrie, from what I've read you can be eating " normal " food eventually, just not as large of quantity. I was upset too prior to surgery, thinking of this loss. Now 11 days post-op I feel quite differently. I've had extensive nutrition counseling and am now ready to apply it. Even though I can't eat the foods right now that the family is eating, I've put them on a healthier diet. So far they haven't noticed the difference. I need to have the mind-set for the future to watch carefully fats, sweets, and carbs. I've known this all along, just didn't practice it. Now I am, and I'm determined to make this work. Losing weight quickly as I am, is a wonderful incentive. Actually my first trip to the store after surgery was quite easy. I just said to myself, you can't have that. Look for what you can have, and replace the old eating habits. I can hear the anguish in your mail. I wish there was an easy way to comfort you. Every one here that's had the surgery probably can empathize with you. I almost changed my mind a month prior to surgery for exactly the same reason you mentioned. It was hard changing that around, but here I am....and soooooooo glad. I'm sure you'll get lots of input from this group. If you like you can email me directly jclinton@... Joan C, Calif. Guest guest
Who said you can't have " regular " food? You will be on liquids and a modified food diet for a while after surgery, but you will slowly be able to add " regular " food back into your diet as you progress. Will you be able to have candy bars and bags of popcorn or chips? Probably not, but then again, you won't want them. And even if you do, your body will stop you at the filling point of your new pouch. Trust me, once you over fill a few times, you'll be aware of what you put into it. I went to dinner tonight and made the mistake of enjoying a salad with a bit of bread before the meal came. Needless to say, while everyone else was eating their delicious dinners I was bemoaning the fact that I had not made the right choice for myself. I have to remember to eat my proteins first, vegies/salads after. It is all a learning process. It takes time, but you will get there. After you see the weight falling off of your body and start receiving compliments about your progress, you will be more apt to make better choices. I usually do! I fell off the wagon tonight, but tomorrow is a new day! Good luck. I'll be thinking of you! > I have surgery Monday and today and tomorrow is clear liquid days. I > am having such a hard time. Guest guest
Hi Sherrie....yes, I was on clears the day before my surgery, too....along with the bowel prep.........I felt like...why am I doing this? But, you know what?....this is only one day in the rest of your (new) life...it is only temporary....what you are feeling is normal. When I went into the hospital on the day of my surgery, they took my blood pressure, and it was 176/96!!!!!! Jeez,....think I was alittle nervous? But it all turned out fine....you will be ok...keep the faith!!! I will pray for you and your family!!!! Take care, sherri From: funmomof2002 To: Gastric_Bypass_Family Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2003 3:20 AM Subject: Re: One more day Who said you can't have " regular " food? Guest guest
I shopped online for low carb foods in the days just before surgery. What fun! It was " wow! I'll be able to have that " , " wow, how'd they make that low carb?! " , " wow, I will be able to have pancakes and pasta! " ........make these days fun and have something to look forward to when you come home. It was a whole new way of shopping. Check out LOWCARBUNLIMITED.COM and LOWCARBOUTLET.COM Best of luck and keep us posted! 284/249/245 11/18/
