Weight loss - where is it??

Well gang, it has now been 11 days since I had my open RNY and I

have lost just 4 lbs. I'm following the post op diet of

protein/liquid to the letter. I'm walking and doing all the right

things. I'm getting discouraged.

My questions....Has this ever happened to anyone else and what is

the cause? How do you speed up the weight loss? It is too early for

a serious workout.

Has anyone has big trouble with gas retention? The pain is aweful

sometimes. What meds can I take?

Thanks!

Hey !!!

I have to ask (sorry if this is gross). Have you had a real bowel movement

yet? Are you retaining a lot of water?

I lost a few pounds at first but it took until I finally had a real bowel

movement for them to really start dropping. Plus I was retaining a lot of

water (major indentations from my socks). But once my bowels started to

move I lost the water as well. In fact the day after they finally started

moving I got up and weighed myself and I lost 8 pounds.

I recently read in a magazine that you body can (when functioning normally)

fluctuate it's weight by up to 3-4 pounds on any given day depending on

water retention, how clear your intestines and bowels are....oh and there

was one other thing but now I can't recall what it is. It was in a health

question and answer column. The question was something to the effect of

" How is it your weight can go up and down when you are following to the

letter a strict diet and exercise program and is it really possible to lose

and 2-3 pounds over the course of a day " . I thought it was rather

interesting since I have days where I will gain 2-3 pounds over night and

then the next day they are gone.

You may need to talk to your doctor and have him prescribe a stool softener

or laxative and maybe a diuretic if you are retaining water.

Good Luck to ya!!!

I too Had Rny on Nov 18th and really havent seen any weight loss either, i

still feel very bloated and my tummy seams to be so tender still, i cant wear

any of my jeans yet, cuz they hit right where to drain on my left side was, i

find i can eat almost anything, baked potatos, diet pudding, milk, so far, so

good, but a few bites and im so stuffed. I ate some custard style yoguart and

that went down great, although it had 27 grams of sugar, i havent had dumping

yet, and im scared i wont...i want it. I need to really up my water intake,

its hard for me to get that all in. My engery level is back to normal, and i

find my self wanting to do things i know i cant do right now. I hope everyone

who went on the losing side with me is doing as well as i am...(((hugs))) to

everyone... in ks

I've just had liquid stool so far. I must be retaining water, but

everything fits the same as right before surgery. This stinks!

I'm glad my fellow 11/18'ers are doing so well. Keep the success

stories coming!!!

Hi , I'm also 11 days, surgery was 11/18. Mine wasn't open, but from

what I've been seeing on posts, everyone differs with weight loss. Don't

give up, it'll come. 4# is 4#. If you were like me before, 4# was a BIG

deal. Congrats on that! My gas retention is gone, but that may be a

different in people, or maybe in a difference of open or lap.
