Guest guest
Speaking of looking out for yourself, A few days ago I got around to reading the patient info that comes with my Rx for Prevacid (I'm supposed to take 2 a day). It says that Prevacid interferes with the absorption of Beta Carotene, B12 and iron. I asked the pharmacist about this (of course she knew nothing about WLS). I wanted to know if that meant Prevacid should not be taken at the same time as Beta Carotene, B12 and iron, or did it have further reaching affects. She basically said that since Prevacid reduces stomach acid, it would affect absorption in general, not just at the time of dosage. Since we already have very little stomach acid, how does that affect us (or is it effect, I never know)? Does any one out there know the answer to this? Do we need to take even more iron and B12 if we are taking Prevacid? Barbara 9 years post From 300-
Guest guest
I'm so sorry, I'll be a " graduate " (a year post op) next month. However, I'm so glad you guys brought up this subject. I'm going to the Gastro Dr. tomorrow because of the severe burning I've been having in my stomach. It's right between my breastbone. Exactly where my reflux used to bother me. I've been taking 2 Previcid a day, and it isn't helping. I've had a history of ulcers in the past, and am hoping it's not that again. It really is good to know that I'm not the only one having this problem after having the surgery. I've been told my many people that it's " impossible " to have the heartburn after the surger.... o.k., live in my body for awhile. I'll let you all know what the Dr. says. I'm sure it will be different than everyone elses as none of them seem to agree on anything. Thank you for all your help. I've been lurking for awhile and really appreciate all the good information you guys have. If calcium carbonate requires stomach acid to be absorbed, doesn't that make it a kind of oxymoron? I know B12 requires intrinsic factor to be absorbed, rather than stomach acid, and I don't know about iron. in NJ
