Guest guest
I had surgery on 11/18/03 and actually gained 20lbs while in the hospital (fluid, I'm sure). However, I hoped to be losing fat by now. As of today, I am still 7lbs heavier than when I was admitted. I had the open procedure and was wondering what the pain should feel like. On a scale of 1-10, I'm about a 6. I had to call the doc over the weekend because I was at an 8. This is an incisional / muscle issue rather than a complication. He prescribed lidocaine patches, which got me down to a 6. How long does the post op pain last for an open procedure? When did you atart loosing real weight? I am still sooooo happy I did this! 284/249/255/?
Guest guest
... for the record .. my doc insisted that all of his patients walk a minimum of two and a half miles EVERY day for two months before surgery as a criteria for qualifying for surgery. This daily commitment was a requirement after surgery as well. walking is more than exercise ....... it will help regulate water weight issues and too, force the blood to circulate through out all parts of your body ... insuring tissue health....healing .... and a more efficient toxic waste machine .... which in my book includes the elimination of TOXIC FAT ... BEst of luck to you and Skinny wishes from Mandy in CA 275/148/

Guest guest
, I had open on 11/12. I'm surpirsed your doctor didn't give you a prescription for pain meds. I've been on Oxycotin 2 times a day (that ended yesterday) and Percoset as needed. I've only needed the Percoset one or two times. Overall I'd describe any current pain as more muscle tenderness as my body is healing. I didn't gain any water weight at all I guess because I left the hospital with a loss and since have shown a total loss of 20 pounds as of yesterday. I just stick with the diet my doc put me on and walk a mile a day. I eat 4 meals a day. Each consists of an ounce of protein, an ounce of vegetable, and a half ounce of carbohydrate. Everything is pureed to applesauce consistancy. I go tomorrow for my two week follow up and am looking forward to having the drains taken out. They are so inconvient. Hang in there. Guest guest
Hi, I had an open RNY on 18 Feb 2003 I am also a registered nurse as well and work on a adult medical surgical/pediatric unit (I'm such a bad girl, and I am actually at work right now.. shame on me, but my pts are all asleep!). Pain is a very subjective issue..we are all so different. I was at about an 8/10 for about a week... and I stayed around a 5-6/10 for about 3 weeks, exacerbated by activity of course. After about a month I began to feel better and when my staples were out wow, I felt even better! It does get better, I promise... 2 month out and I was pain free and had no residual discomfort whatsoever. Just know that the pain is temporary and hang in there. Open RNY 18 Feb 2003 209/177/?
