Hello everyone,

My name is Donna and this is my first time to post. I have been

reading everyone's messages for the last few weeks. My surgery date

is Dec. 8 2003 with Dr. from Chico, CA. I didn't think that I

would be posting here myself but the closer my surgery date gets the

more I realize that I too will need a good support group like this

one. :-) I can't belive how quickly the last few weeks have gone by.

I am just now starting to get a bit nervous, not so much about the

surgery itself but about the recovery. I have two boys ages 13 and

15 who are against me having the surgery so I feel that I need to

show as little pain afterwards as possible.

Well, just wanted to say hi and am looking forward to getting to know

all of you better.

Hi Donna,

Glad to have you aboard. This is without a doubt the absolute best

support group on the net. Anything you need to ask or want to ask just ask. You

have to make this decision for yourself. Naturally your family will want you NOT

to do this because of the risk. But with me the risk of not doing it were a

bigger danger to me. I have never regretted having the surgery and would do it

again in an instant. Just walk and keep walking to keep the clots from forming

and also to work the soreness out. You will do just fine. Again WELCOME!

Hi Donna, 12/8 is coming fast! I'm in central California, a little north of

Fresno. I didn't hear about this support group until 2 days before my

surgery which was 11/18. I wish I'd been here before that. I'm learning so

much. Everyone is wonderful, and of course, in the same boat. There's a

local support group with one of the surgeons present once a month in Fresno,

but it would be 2 hours of driving and at night. My kids are 24 and 26, so

they were very supportive. They know what I've been through and are old

enough to appreciate it. I'm not sure about teen-agers though. Have you

talked to them about the reasons for the surgery, and what it will do for

you? Is your surgery LAP RNY? That's what mine was, and for me, it's been

so easy. Home after 26 hours, and on day 6 doing housework and feeling

quite wonderful. Of course, everyone is different. You'll just have to

listen to your body. I think if my kids were that age, I'd probably talk

with them about pain and what I needed in the way of support. I had a small

amount of pain, and expressed it when needed. I've always been one to stick

to reality. Hope you can work it out with the boys. Are they afraid? If

so, what are their fears? That age is hard to talk with, but once they

start talking it's amazing to find out what they're thinking.

Donna,

Good luck on your upcoming surgery date. Maybe your boys are against it

because they're just scared about the whole procedure. I'm sure once they see

the

weight fall off and all the extra energy you have and new attitude they'll

have a different opinion on it.

Any questions feel free to ask. This is a great and very knowledgeable

group.

Take Care,
