My first appointment!

Well I attended the mandatory information session at Penn State

Hershey Medical Center and have my first appointment with the

Nutritionist scheduled for Monday morning. I'm curious to know if

anyone here has been through the program at Penn Sate Hershey Med?

I'm somewhat confused with my insurance though and hope the program

ppl at Hershey can help me sort it out. My insurance company gave me

a referral to see the surgeon BUT the way Hershey's program works you

are required to see the Nutritionist at least 3 times BEFORE you see

the surgeon. I called my insurance company to find out if they cover

the cost of the Nutritionist and they said I have to have a " pre-

cert " in order to see them so I'm not sure what the deal is. They

told me if my surgery is approved then everything that goes with the

program at PSHM is covered. Confusing or at least I think it is.

The first Nutrition appt will cost $116.00 and they require you to

pay it up front because they said most insurance companies don't

cover it. I went to the information session on Thursday and called to

make my appointment immediately after that, I NEVER expected to have

an appointment MONDAY already! I was told the pre-cert will take at

least 5 days so if they don't approve it then I'm out $116.00 if they

do then I'll get reimbursed for it. Since Healthguard deals mainly

with the Hershey Medical Center Program you WOULD think they know how

the process works with them....I feel like I'm already jumping

through hoops and it's frustrating!

Anyway I'm excited and scared about the appointment tomorrow so I'll

let you all know how I make out!

Sue unfortunately my insurance company did not cover any of those

appointments. they covered the evaluation by the surgeon only. But all of

the other parts of the evaluation (nutritionist, physical therapist,

behavior counselor etc...) were all self pay. I think my out of pocket was

$600.00 total. Everything else was covered.
