Guest guest
Honey, you are sooooo.... normal! For some reason our taste buds seem to change after surgery. Not only do many of our tastes change, but when our bodies go through ketosis (burning fat for fuel) post-op that can affect our smells and tastes. I was a huge water guzzler pre-op, but couldn't stomach it post-op. I ended up in the emergency room to get rehydrated and potassiumed lol. I made a resolve to get my fluids in so I started putting a slice of lemon or lime in my water. Drank it ice cold instead of at room temp. Sugar free tank, herbal teas, crystal lite... anything without sugar or caffiene. Oh yeah, I also drank Propel, the sugar free alternative to Gatorade. You might want to consider switching to Propel. You'll get the electrolytes you need, but avoid the extra calories and carbohydrates that are in Gatorade. Good luck and best wishes. **Don't dwell on past failures, dream of future successes.** ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Toi ~ Colorado Lap RNY Medial Bypass 12/31/02 -143 lbs St. Mark's Hospital Salt Lake City, UT Dr. Simper
Guest guest
Toi, just read this post, and I too hate the water, but had forgotten a suggestion by a very caring nurse that said many are able to drink the water if it's ice cold, and use a straw! I'll start today. I'm only 5 days post-op, and am getting plenty of liquids anyway, but do miss the water. I'm told to really watch getting liquids as I have kidney disease, compliments of Diabetes, and Diabetes medications. So, ice water here we come!!! Thanks Joan C, California Dr. Kelvin Higa LAP RNY 11/18/03 Wow! 10#'s in 5 days! Nora ~ Re: question for the post-ops Honey, you are sooooo.... normal! Guest guest
Sherri, thanks for the heads up about the straws. I'd never thought about that. Very good point. Guest guest
My doctor also says " no straws " . It fills the pouch up with too much air.
