Guest guest
Well My surgery was scheduled for 7am Tuesday 11/18. I had to be at the hospitl for 5am. My hubby and I sat in the lobby till 5:45am. They then brought me to my room and had me put my gown on. Then they weighed me. Then I had to get on the bed and they took me to the holding area. there they hooked up my iv and gave me some blood thinners! I remember talking to my hubby and mom and the guy came in and said Im gonna give you some stuff to relax you. Because at this point I could not lie still..My nerves were getting the best of me. Well that was the last thing I remember except for a warm blanket being put over me in the OR. My mom and hubby said I talked to them for about 10 minutes after the shot but I dont remember a thing. The next thing i remember after the shot was them saying " Wake up Mrs you did great " ..LOL Then I was rolled to recovery. They kept trying to wake me up! FINALLY I made it to the ICU and woke enough to ask for my family! They let them in immediatly. The nurse told my husband that the surgery was " TEXT BOOK " except for the time it took. We were originally told 2-2 1/2 hours and it took 1 hour and 10 minutes. At about 6pm tuesday night I was ready to get up and walk but they would only let me get up and move to the chair. Thats where i slept the rest of the night..It was MUCH more comfortable than the bed. There was another lady next to me in ICU who had the same procedure done. Poor thing was nauseated and throwing up. I felt sooo sorry for her! She ended up sleeping in the chair also. The next morning we were sent for upper GI's. The other girl went first and the dr who did the GI told the nurse she had a small trinkle of a leakage. To keep her off food and stuff..SO now my heart is racing because we used the same dr. They did my upper GI and I was told it was " BEAUTIFUL " . I was then brought back to ICU for breakfast of crystal light and sorbet..I ate neither. When we got ready to go to my room they were gonn wheel me in the wheel chair and I said " PLEASE LET ME WALK " so I did. It was a pretty good ways but i was ready for it! Once I was in my room I was up and walking like every hour! I was able to come home Thursday morning and all has been fine except the drain tube hurts REALLY bad and the diarrea is TERRIBLE! Now for my questions. Is it normal to have trouble getting all the protein in the first couple of days? And does anyone mix their protein drink with anything else to cut the taste? I have a Syrup that i have to take 4TBS of a day plus a powder that i have to have 2 scoops a day and the protein drink. YEsterday I got it all except for about 4 oz of my protein drink because I was having to mix it with Sugarfree koolaid or crystal lite to be able to tolerate it....also how long does the diarrea lasts?? Thanks for listening to my story, Crystal PostOp 11/18/03 365/354/200(the 11 pds were lost from 9/29 to 11/18)

Guest guest
Dear Crystal: I read your story, and I was glad that you put it on here. You see I plan on having this surgery as well but not till March, that sucks! Any way reading your story helps me to know what others have gone threw and this way I will know what to expect if I got threw the things others are going threw now. This will save me from freaking out. I was wondering if you would not mind writing to me, and letting me know how its going for you, the good as well as the not so good stuff, like you wrote in your letter. I have a lot of health problems and am very nervous about this surgery, but If I want to live I know that I must go threw this. I have high blood pressure, diabetes, Sleep Apnea, and depression. I recently got out of the hospital. I needed to be stabilized. But IM okay now. I want to thank you again for your letter I know it must be hard going threw this, but in the end you will feel better. We all will. Take care of yourself, and keep in touch okay I would appreciate it very much. a friend h
Guest guest
h, you're not alone. I've already had the surgery, but went through 11 months of doctors, tests, etc. to get the surgery. " I have high blood pressure, diabetes, Sleep Apnea, and depression " Me too, and high cholesterol, sky-high triglycerides, GERD, arthritis in 2 knees & one ankle, and kidney disease. This surgery was the answer!!!!! March seems like a long time, but all of a sudden it's here, and you're on your way to a new, better life.
