OFF TOPIC: Help air fares!

Don't kill me for posting this ...

.... but I figured there MIGHT be someone out in this community that

understands the air travel industry

I need to travel on the 17th of this month, but am only finding HUGE

airfares -- BIG ... like $400 to over $1,000 going to SLC!! I've tried the

conventional and webfare routes, but keep getting nothing less that $350.

I've even tried the closest date thingy and the day I need to leave is not

available.

Maybe I'm living in a dreamworld ... but I would like to get a fare less

than $300. What's the deal ... why are fares so ridiculously high??

I know I'm subject to the whims of the travel world, but is there any slight

chance out there that fares may dip as my departure date draws closer?
