Guest guest
And the other thing is meds & otc stuff. They are bombarded with drug reps, new stuff for this, for that, but not for people with this condition or that condition. And they're sposta memorize it all? Sheesh. They have to retain some info about it all or they'd not even know what to look FOR. And then, we want them to know all about OTC meds? AND vitamins, minerals and misc supplements? It took me awhile to become more sympathetic. My docs were actually relieved when I took them down off the pedestal and let them breathe. LOL! Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. But are you saying that becuz they work so hard to get where they are that they should not be held accountable for disseminating inaccurate info and bad advice? I do not agree that that is EVER justifiable. Carol A

I have been to both good and bad doctors. The bad ones are generally those who consider it somehow beneath them to garner any kind of info from anyone who is not a peer. The good ones are those who truly listen to what you have to say and don't just dismiss your pains and concerns bcuz they don't fit into their preconceived notions of what's what. I nearly died in my late 20's bcuz my doc insisted my pain HAD to be " all in my head " since all tests came back negative. I sincerely do not mean to knock all docs, but please, let's not give the bad ones carte blanche to jeopardize our health just bcuz there are good ones in the profession as well ! Guest guest
> I feel I must respond to some of the remarks and complaints about > physicians just to give you a little insight from the other side. Thank you for posting this. I know that there are doctors out there who don't care, but I believe that the large majority of them are on our side. They can't possibly have time to learn all the things they need to learn for all the needs of every patient. I do think most of them do the best they can on the time they have. My surgeon spends an incredible amount of time studying everything he can about bariatrics, and other doctors come to see him to learn how to do RNY's. I would not say he's perfect, but I do know he cares. When the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Celebrex (same as Vioxx type of medicine) discovered that it could cause spontaneous bleeding of the stomach, they send out a bulletin to physicians. As this kind of news makes it doubly dangerous for anyone who has had stomach surgery, he called me AT HOME, AFTER HOURS, and before I had even had my surgery, to urge me to stop taking it for my arthritis. He remembered that I had asked if I could keep taking it after surgery, and at the time I asked he had said yes, after I was healed. Here he was, on his own time, remembering me out of his hundreds of patients, to give me this warning before he had even made a single cut on me. He was certainly more concerned about my safety than he was about his own time or money, to take the time to do this for me. We gripe and moan here a lot about doctors, but some of them are priceless. I bet your son is one of those, too. My response: Where did you get that out of what I said? I never said we should excuse bad doctors! In any bunch of apples there are a few bad ones, and some of them extraordinarily so. I'm saying I don't think that is the case in all, or even most of them. Criminy, when I was a young woman, weighing about 240, I had a miscarriage, and my ob/gyn walks into the emergency room where I'm scared and crying and says " You know, this probably wouldn't have happened if you weren't so fat. " in those exact words. Someone should have slapped him! So yeah, he was one of the really bad ones. I was only saying that I don't think the majority are like that. ~~ Lyn G
