Guest guest
This article just left me flabbergasted: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/01/07/MN166871.DTL In particular, these comments: " The American people will make healthy choices if given the chance, " Carmona said, " " We think there are policy changes that need to be made so people can make those healthy choices, " said Hecht, head of California Food Policy Advocates in San Francisco. " The environment has to change so people have access to healthy food. " " But I'm a little concerned about his emphasis on the individual family making changes without society doing something to help families make these changes. " (a) Haven't we, as Americans, quite clearly proven that we will NOT make healthy choices given the chance? ( Policy changes? Policy changes? Am I the only one who has access to vegatables in the grocery store, which are much cheaper than chips or cookies? What access is this guy talking about? The foods served in free school lunches? I hardly think this is the issue! © I am literally stunned by someone who believes that society needs to do something to help individual families make these changes. Sometimes I am embarassed by my own peers and American public! We're obese as a socity because we make poor food choices, not because society is forcing us to eat poorly or giving us no other choice. Double chocalate latte w. whipped cream vs. black coffee Get serious!!! Please, oh please don't tell me politicians are stupid! > This article just left me flabbergasted: > > http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi? file=/c/a/2003/01/07/MN166871.DTL > > In particular, these comments: > > " The American people will make healthy choices if given the chance, " Carmona said, " > > " We think there are policy changes that need to be made so people can make those healthy choices, " said Hecht, head of California Food Policy Advocates in San Francisco. We're obese as a socity because we make poor food choices, not because society is forcing us to eat poorly or giving us no other choice. Well, on the up-side, we appear to be making better choices, gradually. Mc's is suffering from sales losses, and so is Burger King, while Subway is building new stores every day. In our case, Subway sandwiches with their big rolls are not a better choice, but we can have any sandwich filling in a salad (while the burger joints offer a pitiful choice of salads, for the most part), and people are trying to eat healthier. So maybe SOME of the public is making better choices! ~~ Lyn G
