sleep apnea

Is there anyone here who had severe sleep apnea before WLS, and whose apnea was

not totally under control (under 10 episodes per hour) before surgery? If so,

how did the surgery go for you? Did you have any complications from the sleep

apnea?

My sister is currently trying to get approval for open RNY and her latest sleep

study, at top settings on BiPap, was around 40 episodes per minute. They say

they can't get it any better than that, but that if she decides to have the

surgery, which she is, that she could have complications because of it.

Any comments from those who have been through this?

I was having 47 episodes on hour when I had my sleep study. Was better

when I had the BiPap. There can be complications during surgery but that

doesn't mean it can't be done. Infact, my apnea is so improved I hardly

ever use my machine anymore.
