Guest guest
Lori, Joining the facilities is a great start, but if I may give some hints because I was a perennial gym hater;; Have fun!!! Don't do anything that seems like torture. I bought myself a little kickboard for the pool. I just couldn't face swimming laps. Now I paddle around like a little motorboat (okay, maybe a tugboat), I kick away and let my mind wander to pleasant places. I finally, last week, bought myself some headphones for the treadmill. Now I am buying one CD a month (the gym has a sound system). I had forgotten how much I love music!!! I love to get on the elliptical trainer, which is a little smoother than the treadmill, and " dance " to the music. I hold on to the rails, close my eyes, and transport to my own place. On lazy days, which is often, I go for the recumbent bike. I get magazines (past issues) from the library, set myself up with one or two, and peddle for 30-45 minutes. An impossible feat without the reading material. I also never miss stretching. I am developing a perverse addiction to stretching lately. I've lost enough weight that my body is beginning to feel different from before. I love to stretch and feel all of those ligaments pop into place (the chiropractor said we carry our bodies differently now, but that our ligaments have memories. It takes about 1 year to 18 months to retrain them into a new position. When you stretch, they go into the proper position, and then gradually go back. Then you stretch again the next day...) I love to lie backwards over those big exercise balls and try to feel my ribs. Kinky, Huh? I would pay a lot, alot of money to go to a health spa, but I can't afford it. I try to think of my time at the gym as my indulgenge. I buy nice shower gels, scrubs and shampoos and take a wonderful hot shower. I put on my makeup there. When I leave, I look good, have a fabulous rosy glow, and feel great about myself. I keep trying to give myself this pep talk when my " devil sabateur " tries to tell me how horrible exercising is. I like treating myself well. I deserve it. And every person I meet for the rest of the day gets some of the outfall. Go for it!!!! Guest guest
Thanks Vicki. I have a video now and had planned on buying a couple of more for the variety. I really just need to get my butt in gear. Somehow that 350 lb mark scared the ---- right out of me. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. SRVG 7/16/01 401 lbs. Current Weight 339.5 lbs. Guest guest
Lori, Honestly my videos are all gathering dust. It wasn't until I found a local gym and started showing up regularly that I was motivated. I got motivated because after a few weeks people started to recognize me and say Hi. I got motivated because women in the dressing room talk about EVERYTHING. I got motivated because one day during workout a really buff guy came up to me and said " you may not know this, but everyone here is rooting for you " and I got motivated because i walk my dogs almost everyday the same time and sometimes people rool down their windows and say " keep it up " and I've just learned I'm becoming the " Basset lady " ( I have 2 hounds). > > > Thanks Jac. > > > I can't very well tell you to mind your own business since > > > > I am > > > asking for the advice.
