Weight gain (confession time)

Okay, it's confession time. As long as others are doing it I

might as well stick my foot where my mouth is. Last July I weighed 302

lbs on my scale. At my doctor's office I almost always weight about 10

lbs more. I also manage to go right around when my period is. So when I

went to the doctor in October and weighed 320 lbs I didn't really worry

to much. I have been pretty depressed lately predominantly because my

car no longer works and I am basically homebound. I mention this only

because I also have not been taking my meds regularly including the

diuretics. I keep forgetting to take the meds. (I have an appointment

on March 18 to see a psychiatrist.) I have had a bad case of the

munchies since just before Christmas. I did not realize that I was

eating mostly carbs and sugar until today when my home health aide asked

about it.

I went to see my doctor today. I now weigh 350 lbs. The first

two things out of his mouth were " Are you taking your diuretics? " and

" Are you depressed? " I had to honestly say no and yes. I don't want to

spend all night crying about it. The ironic thing is that my clothes do

not feel any tighter then they were two months ago. I am fortunate that

my old home health aide is back - the one that expects me to exercise.

(My last one - who got fired Saturday - was willing to watch my video

with me. Gee I can do that.) My physician has approved some weight

training exercises and machines as long as I don't do the stair steppers

or the stationary bikes. Makes sense because of the arthritis. It is

also almost shopping time (I get paid on the 15th) so I can actually get

some healthier food. It is not like there isn't healthy stuff here. I

have a freezer full of chicken, turkey, ground turkey, frozen veggies,

frozen fruit, etc. I just seem to be focusing on the mashed potatoes and

stuffing. Guess the old food addiction is back kind of like the

Poltergiest.

Lori:

I believe that I began this confession thread a few days ago and

have received so many replies. One piece of advice that someone sent

along to me was this: " You cannot eat what is not bought! In other

words, if it is not in the house, then you cannot eat it! You have

the good stuff in the freezer, so take it out and use it! Throw away

the mashed potatoes and stuffing. That is what I did this morning...

threw away any and all temptations! Just some food for thought... no

pun intended! -- Deb

Thanks Jac.

I can't very well tell you to mind your own business since I am

asking for the advice. I have an appointment with a psychiatrist on

March 18. I am on standby tomorrow morning, however, and plan on parking

my rear in his waiting room early. I fortunately already know what works

I just need to get back on them. The unfortunate thing about the

diuretics is that I have high blood pressure and congestive heart

failure. Not taking them is uglier then just the excess water. So there

is a very valid reason for taking them.

I actually found a picture this weekend that was taken right

after I gained the 100 lbs that took me to 350 lbs the first time. It is

a picture that was taken while I was attending TWU. I honestly think I

lost my eyes somewhere in all of that fat. I could barely see slits

where my eyes should be. And I had the insane idea to wear a hot pink

tank top the day the picture was taken. You want to talk ugly.

I have decided to go to the TWU wellness center. It cost $30 a

month but you have access to the pool, treadmills, weights, aerobic

classes, etc. Maybe worth the $30 just to have access to the indoor

swimming pool. Cost $20 a month for just the swimming pool but I would

like to start doing some of the strength training especially for the

upper body. Might even be able to swing a personal trainer for a session

or two. Thanks. I really do need a kick in the rear.
