Guest guest
You know, I'm not getting any younger. I was lying in bed last night with my arm raised watching my extra skin rustle in the breeze and I suddenly thought... Geez, if I don't get off my but and get serious about losing this last 40 pounds, I'm never going to have ps. (BTW 40 pounds will only have me breaking 200 (yeah Sue) and not be to what everyone else would call goal, which is really about 60 pounds away). I've been flirting with this 230-235 pound range for about 6 weeks now. I can't fool myself any longer, especially after 4 days of carbs. I turn 45 tomorrow. Looking at my hands, I can see that my skin tone is already shot. What am I going to do...walk around with breasts to my waist for the next 30 years...never feel good about having sex again, continue to fight wearing clothes because of the pannus? Am I sabatoging myself from making that last jump? Am I trying to live in the problem? Am I reluctant to redefine myself and meet the new and unknown challenges ahead? What is stopping me? Good questions. Things I have to stop and give some serious thought to. It is WAY too easy to shut off the brain, go into avoidance, and see the weight creep back on. I guess I have some head work to do these next couple of days. Good luck Fay. Post every 5 minutes if it helps. My girlfriend just told me about a neat little ritual she has. Her friend gave her a marble to carry with her wherever she goes. Whenever she feels that compulsion, she pops the marble in her mouth and rolls it around. It brings her back to the physical moment and makes her focus on her priorities and goals. She says that marble has saved the day a few times. Hmm...funky...neato...whatever works! Smiles, Vicki A. Wonder what we can come up with that's less life-threatening and more tooth-friendly! LOL! **********************8 My surgeon has a gum fetish! He asks up front if you chew gum, if you say yes he sends you to have some behavior modification classes. He says he HATES having to fish out gum that has gotten stuck in the stoma. I was safe from the classes, I don't chew gum (can't stand the SOUND of someone chewing gum either)....but you know....he should send all of his patients in for behavior modification any ways........to help with the HEAD hunger! She says that marble *** actually the biggest problem with doing this repeatedly is that the metal wears the enamel off the teeth. those with metal tongue piercings are now having dental problems and are being advised to remove the piercing or switch to rubber one. sue

In my day, they were glass or agate........maybe those would have the same effect on the enamel; don't really know. Carol A
Guest guest
That's funny Debbie. My doc just said if I swallowed gum, take some meat tenderizer and water..and call him in the morning. I never thought I'd have a problem since I have NEVER swallowed gum in my entire life..why would I do it now post-op? Well...never is a long time. I was chewing gum...and for some dumb unknown reason, I swallowed my gum....sheesh! Well...nothing....no meat tenderizer...no fishing trip...it just went on through. No biggie. I must admit...it did scare me...I've heard the horror stories....LOL! Can imagine a huge wad of bubble gum maybe stopping up the works...but I chew Trident...itty bitty pieces of gum.....keeps my mouth from drying out when it is inconvenient to be chugging my water. I must admit...it did scare me...I've heard the horror stories....LOL! Did you know about fresh coconut? (Not what's in the bags at the store, fresh coconut from the produce department). The doctors at Pacific Bariatrics found out about this one because some of their first patients were Filipinas, who cook with fresh coconut. Turns out, coconut does not break down in your system post-op, and probably not even pre-op, but pre-op your openings are bigger and it doesn't matter. But a piece of coconut the size of the stoma will not go through it and will not break down for DAYS, and has to be scoped. It was one of the foods on our " Never to be eaten again, ever " list. I eat the coconut from the baking aisle, because it's small enough, but I have noticed (ahem) that I definitely malabsorb it. And I don't have it but a few times a year, so it's not life-threatening. ~~ Lyn G (still won't chew gum, though, and don't get me started on the accidental crab shell incident!)
