Been there, done that with overeating a treat or two. Not that often,

just long enough between binges to forget that lousy sick feeling and

swear it will never happen again. Whoops. : )

Forgive my ignorence, but what is a persimmon? I know I've asked these

questions in the past, but have to tell you, I was almost 26 when I got

married and my husband brought home a fresh head of brocolli and I asked

him what it was. Never saw one in my life and didn't know what to do

with it. Pretty pathetic, huh? Still learning about different things

out there and actually have tried some of the foods I've seen posted on

the list. I do however draw the line at the kaputski thing, even though

my husband and his friend want to make it, at his friend's house that

is. Not going to happen here.

A persimmon is a fruit which grows on a tree. The tree is

beautiful...after the leaves fall of, the lacy branches have

beautiful orange persimmons hanging down all over like an earring

tree or Christmas ornaments.

The fruit itself is orange, about the size of a large apple, and kind

of heart shaped. The pulp is soft and very astringent. My husband

loves it, I hate it. I cook them in cookies and breads (not

successfully it seems!)and they lose their astringent taste. There is

a Japanese type that is flattened at the top which is crunchier and

very sweet, non-astringent, and I am absolutely crazy about these. I

eat them raw out of hand.
