There are supoository Tylenol that your surgeon can presribe (if they're not available by asking the pharmacist, that is). I used them for the first 6 days home. They help me to avoid codeine. Like you, I had some strange reactions (but my reactions were different, like nightmares, etc.) I had some headaches last weekend, and they were actually caused by over sleeping. Lying on my back, for 12 to 15 hours, finally gave me pain in the neck and the pain transformed into a headache. I took a few Tylenol, but mostly, I went outside, and took some fresh air. I was frozen to death, so even under the sun, I was clothed like in Winter, and had a few blankets over me. The headache left in no time, and never returned. Guest guest
Hey Marco - I think I had a headache night also around day 6. Like you, I didn't know what to do about it. I tried to tough it out but man I just felt like crap. What I finally did was hit the codeine. Here are some things I didn't try that I have learned of since. 1. Nutrition: You say you already tried this but it didn't occur to me at the time that my headache could be from low blood sugar. So, often fruit juice or an Ensure can work wonders on a headache. 2. Moist heat: Apply moist heat to the jaws, muscles, joints, etc. There are gel packs that you can wrap in a moist towel and heat in the microwave for a minute or so. This sometimes works for me. I would definitely not sit around in pain however. I don't have problems tolerating codeine so it's easy for me to say but I'd be all over that stuff if I couldn't get rid of the headache. Maybe the pharmacist has suggestions on how to take it and minimize the stomach upset. Jay > I've experienced headaches today that I've never experienced in my > life. Guest guest
Are you using anything like pseudafed or Afrin? Do call your surgeon's office and ask whether an anti-congestant is appropriate. (Surely they have a callback service, even on weekends.) If you go with the Afrin, be careful to limit the doses, as you can cause rebound swelling which is even worse, and causes more pain. Also, have you had enough food? Nutrition is crucial, too. Cammie > I've experienced headaches today that I've never experienced in my > life. Guest guest
Sorry. Sudafed, not pseudafed... C. > > I've experienced headaches today that I've never experienced in my > > life. Guest guest
Call me weird, but sometimes my headaches start in my stomach. Tylenol has never helped me--ever. I learned (from desperately trying different things) that if I can head off the sick pukiness from my stomach, I can often avoid the big headache and just get a little one instead. For me aspirin and an antacid or a couple of those calcium chew things usually work. A couple days after surgery my head was starting to feel not well. It wasnt exactly a headache but I had to cut back on all the nasal stuff and dimetap by half. Stuffiness be damned. Felt much better after that. > > > > I've experienced headaches today that I've never experienced in my > > life.
