Flying Pig Marathon

Hello, grads, just wanted to check in and get some feedback from you all on

this. I have been toying with the idea of attempting a marathon for about a

year now. I've done 5 sprint-distance triathlons and it seems like a

marathon is the next step up as far as goals go. Never in a million years,

at 300 + lbs, would I have ever dreamed I'd be considering a marathon.

Perhaps " when pigs fly " .

Well, there is a marathon in Cincinnati called the Flying Pig Marathon. I

figure I've only got the guts (grin!) to do one at my advanced age (45 and a

granny) so I've got to make it count. The truth is, I want the finisher's

medal, complete with a flying pig for all to see. Seems appropriate, don't

you think??

Anyway, since I'm near San , TX it's a fer piece to get to Ohio.

Airfare, hotel and all that could really be a problem for poor little old

realtor me (and a new realtor at that!) Lo and behold, the Leukemia

Society's Team in Training has this event on their roster of marathons. You

raise money for them, they pay your way. Seems like a match made in heaven.

Anyway, I'm out of the normal " network " for this race, but I talked to

someone at TNT (wonder why they used Team N Training, TNT, instead of Team

In Training (TIT).....Oh, never mind...) and they are looking into what my

fundraising goal would have to be in order to finance this for me. Normally

it's around $3500 but it could be more.

Anyway, I'm sorta excited about the prospect of doing this race.....any of

you in the Cincinnati area who want to email privately and maybe even cheer

me on.....I would love to meet some grads if and when I go. The race is May

4, and right now I'm just in the investigation stage, but depending on what

TNT tells me next week about the fundraising end of it, I just might do it.

And of course, if you would want to donate a bit towards it, if I decide to

do it, I'd love the help. Donations will be tax-deductible, but more on that

later.
