Guest guest
I live in South Florida and my daughter goes to a private preschool. The school system has a contract with the school to provide ST to those kids who qualify for Part B and go that private school. She goes to camp at that same preschool and since Part B is contracted with that school she will be receiving services thru the summer no questions. They told me I am lucky because the school based programs do not offer ESY only contracted sites. Try looking into the other contracted sites for your son. ---- ojosazules76 <ojosazules76@...> wrote: > Has anyone started the battle for ESY services for this summer? > > We did parent-teacher conferences last week and we talked about > plans for summer and fall. Guest guest
As with any special education school service, please remember one thing. Special education is funded by the state. The school district may want to provide many things. But if state funding is not provided, it is probably not going to happen. Guest guest
Summer (ESY) is standard for ESOL. If they provide it for foreign language students, then it is available, whether they admit it or not. Brigett [ojosazules76@...] wrote: Has anyone started the battle for ESY services for this summer? I could care less about the social factor (we do tons of that anyway) but I really want to continue the speech. If I " go there " then I am going to be breaking new ground and requesting something for which there is no infrastructure........This could be a really big uphill battle. Our other option is to try to add 2 more 30 min sessions of private therapy & I just pick up another shift to cover the $$ (UGGHH). I am so torn. I know the schools should be providing it but how much do I want to fight? I'd love to hear what you guys are doing to get those ESY services. Guest guest
I heard it also depends on the degree of impairment. If you believe he really needs it then write them a certified letter explaining why. Be VERY firm. If he needs it and you can get them to agree, they have to provide it. " We're not providing ESY " this year is not a valid reason. They have to send him to another district in that case.
Guest guest
That is also part of my concern.....if they send him to another district that means another ST and who knows how well that will go (we have had a few bad experiences). It would only be for 12 weeks and then he would be re-adjusting to his old school routine all over again. What he needs is a continuation with current therapist who is very good with him. That is why I feel my second best option is to work more to pay for more private services. UGGGHHH I just don't know which battle to fight!! insurance, schools, private therapies......
