Guest guest
from what i've gathered these past 2 years of researching, the average death rate is .5% or 1 in 200 people. i imagine it's different when it comes to different docs. lori h. > Hey there guys, > > I read > the memorial page yesterdsay on obesistyhelp.com and i was bawling > for awhile, and well i wasnt going to get it but a friend said its > only 2 percent and some of these people didnt die from the surgery. > She also said that you can either live with the weight or try to do > something about it, which made sense. Guest guest
That's what I was told also, but in one of the meetings I went to as a pre-op, the Dr. said that it's important to analyze the data based on your own demographic. For instance, the mortality rate increases if you are older (50+ on average), have a higher BMI (60+) or if you have additional medical conditions. He explained it to me for example: Me 35, healthy female, BMI = 41 statistically chance of death 1 in about 5,000 Other, 56yo female with HBP, diabetes, BMI = 63 statistically chance of death maybe 1 in about 80 and of course everywhere in between. (these aren't actual statistics, just the examples he gave).
