Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My surgery is scheduled for 11/18. Just two weeks from now!!! I was wondering how soon after surgery everyone began exercising and what types of exercises did you do. I know that exercise is an individual thing, just wondering what the " Postie Pros " did, how soon, did you exercise at home or at a gym and if you exercised at home can you give ideas for boredom busters? Thanks, in MI Pre-Op 11/18/03 236/?/?
Guest guest
My doc insists that we walk the day of surgery. The more you walk, the less likely you are to have complications such as blood clots and pneumonia. In fact, I suggest you walk before surgery to get used to it, it will make it easier. I was using the elliptical crosstrainer at the gym before surgery, up to 30 minutes. After surgery I walked every day, even if just in the house. Then I went to the gym and used the treadmill after a week or so, then in another week or so I got back on the elliptical machine. I'm now up to an hour on it, burning about 700 calories an hour.....I figure I don't get that many calories in most days! I don't get over there every day, but if I do it 3 or so times a week I'm happy. Now that I'm almost 7 weeks out, I'm going to start some weights and machines (low weights). Hope this helps. Guest guest
! Congratulations on your date! You're close to the losing side. My apartment complex has a gym and I started exercising after 2 weeks. I still can't lift anything, but I can do the bike and treadmill with ease. I have to have something to get me going! Good luck with your surgery! Open 10/13/03 303/280/??? > Hi Everyone, > > My surgery is scheduled for 11/18. Guest guest
hi stephanie. 1st, are you having lap or open? i was cleared to do cardio @ 3 weeks & light weights @ 6 weeks. you will, of course, get 99 different replies regarding the time frame. @ 2 weeks out, i did lots of walking around the mall, not too hot & could always find a place to rest. oh, after the bouncing back phase, i've worked out mostly @ a gym & w/ a babysitter, i mean, personal trainer. congrats on your date!! lori h. > Hi Everyone, > > My surgery is scheduled for 11/18. Guest guest
Hi , I am also . I am pre-op and my Dr. says that exercise starts the day of surgery. Walking, walking, walking. It is very important. Then after weeks of healing not only the outside but the inside as well ( posties often forget about the insides I think) no lifting or strenuous activities, Start an exercise regimen. One of the hospitals near me offers their physical therapy gym and trainers for wls patients. Kind of a neat program. Good luck, Stef Question about Exercise? Guest guest
An elliptical crosstrainer is a machine now in most gyms which exercises both the upper and lower body with minimal impact on joints. It is so named because your feet move in an elongated circle. It's hard to describe, but when you go to your health club ask about it. Guest guest
I found a picture of one on the web. I have a treadmill and a BowFlex machine at home so I don't go to a gym. I had never seen one of those before. I don't think I am quite up to one of those but for 700 calories burned in an hour it is definitely something to think about for the future.
