Guest guest
My name is Mindy and I live in Dallas. My surgery is scheduled for the beginning of August. Any pre-op suggestions to get ready for it? I have a 10 and a 7 year old. I teach preschool and hope I'll be ready to go back after Labor Day. Am I kidding myself? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi Mindy Fellow DFW ite, Your recovery time and what you will need depends on the extent of your surgery. Lower only will require less recovery time, while the works may keep you off your feet and feed for several weeks. Teaching preschool so soon after would scare me. Teaching preschool any time would scare me....so don't mind me. If you are banded or fixed after, talking is an adventure in inepness and quite a challange. Your jaws will probably be tired for several months post-op. These procedures are very invasive and traumatic to the muscles and nerves. They need lots of time and TLC to heal properly.Prepare yourself to bounce back gradually and don't push yourself too hard. At home you will probably need to have some help for the first week or so. Definitely the first 5 days! Prepare the kids for the enmommy that might come home for the hospital. Preprepared meals for the family, keeps them happy and you from having to think about food too much. Who is doing your surgery? Dr Schow at Baylor did mine years ago. Love that guy! Guest guest
Get out of it while you still can. There are too many downsides and dangers with this surgery. Unless you are in pain now, do not get this surgery done. > >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Re: Hi! Guest guest
Hi Cyn! Thanks for the info. I am having upper and lower done. Dr. Odell Marshall at Medical City is doing the surgery. Came highly recommended from several doctors. I really like him and have talked to several patients he has had. They all did fine. I just don't like surgery, any kind, so I'm a little anxious. I have heard from several people that their wisdom teeth extraction was much worse that this surgery. I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 18 and is was hideous. I'm hoping this is better.
