Guest guest
Congrats on losing 30 lbs.!! It must be very exciting to step on the scale and see it move down and know that it is gone forever. I can't wait to be a loser!! Can you tell me how it has been for you since yur surgery. I will be having Lap RNY on 11/18/03 and just wanted to know from new Post-Ops how their experience has been so far and if you have any tips you can pass along for the Pre-Ops. Thanks, in MI Pre-Op 11/18/03 236/?/? > Hi all, I went for my post op visit today with my surgeon. I got the > rest of my staples out and my incision feels better already. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your congrats. Yes it is very exciting to see the scales move down instead of up for a change. I did have some complications during my surgery, which took 7 hours instead of the 2-3 hours it was suppose to take. My surgeon said he had problems getting my bowels to go where he wanted them to go but he got everything the way he wanted them to be. I knew nothing of it at the time but it was really scary for my family. My second day after surgery I had a temp of 102.7 and my surgeon started running tests right away and it was determined that I had developed pneumonia. Right away I was started on IV antiobiotics and breating treatments. I responded to treatment and was released from hospital in a week instead of the usual 2-3 days. The pain was much worst than I thought it would be, maybe because of the complications during surgery and being worked on for 7 hours. The liquid diet is the pits. I was just advanced today to the pureed stage. I am so glad to be able to eat some real food. I haven't been nauseous any or dumped. I can keep everything down and I am thankful that I don't have that nauseous feeling that a lot of post ops talk about. I am still sore and tire easily, but I feel better with each passing day. As far as tips, just drink your water, drink your protein drinks, take your vitamins, walk as much as you can and follow your surgeons instructions and you will do fine. Good luck on your journey and I'll see you on the losing side on 11/18. ~H. Guest guest
Hi , My hubby had his angioplasty surgery the week before I had my surgery. He is doing so much better. We are recuperating together. He lost 25 lbs while he was in the hospital for 2 weeks. He is eating a lot healthier now and trying not to gain that weight back. That's great for me cause we now have no junk food in the house to tempt me. Thank you for your concern. ~H. Guest guest
I had lap GBS Oct. 20. I do have some tips based on my experience. Try some protein drinks before surgery so you can stock up on the ones you like. Don't bother taking personal PJ's or night gowns to the hospital. I didn't even use my own robe in the hospital. The IV gets tangled. You are better off using the ones they give you that have snaps for tubes. Bring some cotton sox. Most hospitals are cold. Bring some special, extra nice antibacterial gel (like Purel, but I like the fancier stuff) just for you. You won " t be able to wash the hand that has the IV after using the toilet, so use your own special gel. It made me feel so much better. Do NOT pig out the week before surgery. If you need to do that, do it earlier. Expect that surgery and recovery isn't easy, but that it is worth the discomfort and effort in the long run. Ask for help when you need it, especially after you go home. The best tip, the thing that helped me the most, was attending support groups for six months before surgery. I had so much more information than most patients, and knew what to expect. Blessings and speedy recovery.
