Guest guest
HI Everyone!! I have a question for you? Has anyone experienced complications with there Gallbladder after having the WLS? I was wondering (I dont have mine), my(1st) cousin had wls last sept and is one yr out. SHe is have a considerable amount of pain and sickness now. She went to her Dr for a follow up and blood work and they told her she needed to have her gallbladder removed. SHe also has a iron deficiency (anemia),and other health problems that she didnt have before the wls but has them now. This scares me...I dont know if I want to go thru this or have prolong problems that I dont have now...but yet i want to cure or help the ones I do have... Any info would be great.... Help confused and scared but yet I want this so bad....
Guest guest
Dear , Gall bladder problems following wls are very common. They should have given her a drug to take twice a day for six months called Actigall (or ursiodol is the generic) which would have cut her chances of forming gall stones down to 20% from 80% with no drugs. Anemia, if you don't stay on top of your iron intake, is common as are many other problems if you don't take care of yourself. If she's having all these problems, chances are that she did not get routine blood tests and follow her trends to see how she's doing. She should have automatically been taking multivitamins, calcium citrate, iron, B-12, and several other supplements which we need daily but don't absorb from regular sources anymore after surgery. If you don't do that, you run the risk of becoming extremely deficient and some of this is irreversible. You can, however, stay on top of all of this and have no problems. It is definitely a risk of the surgery and if you don't commit yourself to taking all of these FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE you will ruin your health. You should know this going in. I hope they can help her and take care of her deficiencies. This, however, does not happen to all of us and does not have to happen to you. You must be extremely proactive after you have this surgery so that your health stays good. It's definitely doable. live each day like it's your last... love like you've never been hurt... Guest guest
leslie, sounds like you have your mind made up. it IS true you have to be diligent plus get frequent check-ups. despite all the legwork & being religious w/ supps i still have bone loss. so now i have to be even more neurotically dedicated, if that's possible, haha. what was the alternative to wls for me: to stay MO & to that i say " no thanx!! " . that wasn't living!! listen to your intuition, your answers are within, hunny. lori h. 18 super grateful months out > HI Everyone!! > SHe also has a iron deficiency > (anemia),and other health problems that she didnt have before the > wls but has them now.
