Guest guest
I was looking over the pouch rules for dummies and saw this. I know that alot has been said about making the meals last up to thirty or forty five minutes and I kept thinking well my gosh I must be eating to fast. And I just couldn't understand this priniciple. So I read this, which I have heard is very accurate, and wanted to put the excerpt regarding " time to eat " on the post here. I know I found it very interesting. The patient must eat the entire meal in 5-15 minutes. A 30-45 minute meal will cause failure. 4. No liquids for 1 ½ hours to 2 hours after each meal. 5. After 1 ½ to 2 hours, begin sipping water and over the next three hours slowly increase water intake. 6. 3 hours after last meal, begin drinking LOTS of water/fluids. 7. 15 minutes before the next meal, drink as much as possible as fast as possible. This is called " water loading, " IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN DRINKING OVER THE LAST FEW HOURS, THIS 'WATER LOADING' WILL NOT WORK. 8. You can water load at any time 2-3 hours before your next meal if you get hungry, which will cause a strong feeling of fullness. Guest guest
I am glad you asked this question, cuz I was confused too...I was thinking that my soup would be so much better in 15 minutes instead of 45 minutes...I asked my nutritionist and she said this rule is for people who are anywhere from 6-12 months post-ops...not new post- ops...she said this could harm a new post-op...I don't know if this is correct info from her, but it made sense to me the way she explained it...and I definately wanted clarification on this issue... ~Hannah open RNY 9/29/03 288/256 > I was looking over the pouch rules for dummies and saw this.
