Guest guest
Being that the holidays are right around the corner, I agreed last Thanksgiving to be the host...no big deal...I have been doing a lot of research about sugar-free and fat-free food recipes and even some for desserts, I was wondering if anyone has tried things like Pumpkin Pie made with Splenda or Candied Yams made with Sweet N' Low...Sugar Free Apple Pie(just to name a few of the desserts)which are my main concern...I know that I won't be able to eat much of anything(had surgery on 9/29/03), but am really curious if I can pull one over on my family, if they will notice the difference without sugar... ;0)I would appreciate any responses...thanks...and also I was told by my DR. that things with " sorbitol " can cause cramping and diarhea, but have noticed that a lot of sugar free and no sugar added foods(I have stayed away from them) contain sorbitol, has anyone else heard of this reaction or had any reactions? Guest guest
I have made pumkin cheesecake made with Splenda in the past and have been able to fool my family with it. I tell them after they have eaten it that it was sugar free. My Inlaws started using Slenda after that as well and since they both have heart disease, they enjoy my cooking. There is very little carbs and no bread at my table. I will tell you that sweet N Low is vey hard to cook with and if you are cooking with Equal your oven temp must be around 350 to cook with. Anything higher takes the sweetness out of it. Guest guest
My nutritionist told me the same thing. I brought a bag of protein bars to her and asked for her opinion. A lot of them had sorbitol, manitol and all of those others that end in -ol. She said they are Sugar alcohols and can cause that reaction in some people so to be wary of them. I only tried one or two with it in there and did not notice a reaction. But I hated the protein bars that had it. Guest guest
I have not had surgery yet, but have experimented with some sugar free foods and everything with sugar alcohols in them gave me LOTS of gas and the runs. The sugar free fudgsicles are really good! in MI Pre-Op 11/18/03 236/?/? > > My nutritionist told me the same thing. I brought a bag of protein > bars to > > her and asked for her opinion.
