Guest guest
Thank you for the information about vit K2, Chris. I'll have to look into that. (so much to learn!) BTW, when I was working in a hospital in the Maritimes years ago, there was a doctor there who was convinced (from his experience in medicine) that margarine (polyunsaturated fat) and a diet low in " good " cholesterol (ie butter, eggs) weakened the heart muscle.(not a popular idea at the time) Margaret __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I use Life Extension Super K which has 1000mcg Vit K2 and 9mg K1 in each capsule. We did have blood work done pre-supplementation and his levels were a little low at .47 ng/mL (normal ref: .15-3.5) After 4 months of supplementation (giving one capsule 5 times in a 2 week period), his level went high at >6ng/mL. So I've backed off to 2 capsules per week. We'll get blood work done in a couple of months and see if I need to back off to 1x per week. > > How much are y'all giving, and are you testing levels before you > start? Guest guest
How much E are you giving him? I was wondering how much K I should be giving also. I just started and was planning 3X week to start. > > > > How much are y'all giving, and are you testing levels before you > > start? Guest guest
He gets 1200IUs d-alpha and 800mg d-gamma daily. I began supplementing with Vitamin K once a week when we were at the 800IUs d- alpha and 400mg d-gamma level and then increased when we went to the level we are at now. As I mentioned below, we are now going to back off just a bit. > > > > > > How much are y'all giving, and are you testing levels before you > > > start? Guest guest
Blood levels for vit K are very unreliable and impacted by diet. They are virtually useless. There is a test called PIV-AII that is a better measure of vit K status. Also PT/PTT (a test for coagulation, normal bleeding) effected by vit K can be followed when on higher doses of vit E. - > How much are y'all giving, and are you testing levels before you > start? Guest guest
I was just about to post a video I watched on this subject, as it pertained to fermenting! For me it was great to know I was doing more for my body by drinking milk kefir (almost) every day. (I drink Goats Milk Kefir.) http://products.mercola.com/vitamin-k Warmly, Velma > > I've got a weird question for y'all. > > > > I've heard that Vitamin K2 (unlike K1 from leafy greens) is made mostly by > bacteria in our guts. > > > > The question is, are there any bacteria used in fermenting that are among > those capable of producing good amounts of K2? Guest guest
Raw eggs are another K2 source, apparently, according to the weston-price found. Don't know which variety. Tonio From: C Sent: Friday, July 30, 2010 8:08 AM nutrition Subject: re: Vitamin K2 Another source of Vitamin K2, MK-7 variety, is kefir. It's so easy to make at home, and I'd guess not as daunting for most people to drink/eat as natto. Nance
