I called the ins.co again today. The rep knew exactly what I was gonna ask before I could even get the whole question out...lol As a former customer service rep (current specialist) with an inusrance company (BCBS) I can truthfully tell you it does not help to follow up with the insurance company every day right after you sent it. It IS a good idea to follow up with them in a couple of days to make sure they have received your inquiry and are processing it. However, predeterminations have to go to the medical department (dr.s and nurses) and CSR's can not control the length of time for that or expedite it. Every insurance company is different, but as a rule of thumb, I would allow 2 weeks after it has been sent before following up with the insurance company. When you do start calling to follow up, ask them if it has already been sent to the medical department, and when it was sent to them and how long you should wait to follow up. When they give you a date, be sure to follow up at that time. Best of luck to you! Chrissy OpenRNY 02/19/03 310.8/194.
