Guest guest
It is unbelievable to me that people who do not know us, will never meet us or our families get to make these life or death decisions for us. They get to decide if we can have the surgery that would save our lives. I have been denied by Humana again and according to the woman I spoke with I have no more appeals. Which is not what my benefits book says. I can only now contact the Missouri Insurance Dept. I don't think that will make any difference but I plan to send them a note explaining the situation. I do not have to option of paying for the surgery myself. I do not have anyone that could help me with it. Which means I will not be having the surgery. I am not sure what I will do now. I am going to have to try to diet and lose some of this weight. I just wanted to let everyone know what has been going on. I haven't been online for a bit, I have been very bummed about being denied again. Thanks for your support. Pat
Guest guest
What reason did Humana give for denying you? I have a freind who works for Humana here in WI and they pay for it. She's talked about at least 3 people from her office who've had WLS. I suppose each state and individual paln may be different. I hope things turn around for you. Good luck Debbie R., WI 8/7/03 rny 286/238/150 Denied!! It is unbelievable to me that people who do not know us, will never meet us or our families get to make these life or death decisions for us. Guest guest
Your post really hit home. I am so very sorry, and I know how sharp your pain must be right now. I got my first denial the other day. And although I am in the process of appealing, it was my wake up call that I have put a lot of eggs into a basket that may never hatch. It has been a long time since I have felt a disappointment that sharply. Please do not give up. And most of all stick around with us! There are new developments everyday in this war. For instance, I've heard that the Assoc. of Bariatric Surgeons are meeting in the spring and they're going to call for a loosening of standards as to how decisions are made about who gets this surgery. I think we're in a period of backlash right now. The demand is up and the insurance companies are fighting against the upfront costs of treating obesity. All that may change in the next couple of years, as the government and the public puts pressure on them. Keep your chin up, and keep on fighting the good fight! Guest guest
I want to thank everyone for all of their support and kind words of encouragement. I have contacted Walter Lindstrom. I will wait to see if he can help me. I haven't given up, although I am not holding much hope that anything can be done. We will just have to wait and see. But I really do appreciate everyone for their help. Thanks again! Pat Denied!!
