I havn't heard anything official from them like I was expecting. Had my consult with the surgeon and have a consult with behavorial health in 2 weeks. I was suppose to have the nutrition clinic consult the other day, but when I got there the clinic was closed so I had to reschedule. I'm just a little miffed, the paperwork the doctor gave us in the group meeting said to do all the appies with with the various clinics and not to call our PCP's until 6 months had passed to see where we're at on the list. I was kinda hoping to get this done quicker then the 2 year's Madigan Army Medical Center is saying it could take, because this time next year we'll be PCS'ing to Hawaii. I definately don't want to have to start over at a new hospital. We have so many doctors deployed right now, they're not even offering the lap. It's open rny or nothing. The nurse and doctor who did consult even tried to tell all of us in the meeting (there was like 15) that TriCare wasn't paying to do it at civilian hospitals anymore, which I know is a crock. A friend of mine got hers done in Seattle a few months ago, but then she'd been on the list for 18 months already and had her surgical date bumped several times. I also know someone else who had it done in a civilian hospital within months of talking to her PCP(and tricare paid 100%), but her BMI was really really high and she had a bunch of other health problems. I guess I need to make an appie with my PCP and see what he knows. I had it done at a civilian hospital and Tricare paid 100% for me. My approval only came through from Tricare on the 5th of September. So if they stopped approving the surgery it happened really recently. I tried to have my surgery done on base as well (They are doing it here for some time) but I was rejected. They said I had too many comorbidities and would prefer I had my surgery at the civilian hospital. The hospital I went to is part of the Center for Advanced Medicine in St. Louis and so they were better equipped to deal with any possible complication. Good Luck to you!!! (he was deployed for the war) On Sept 15 he said he would write the consult. I called tricare a couple times they had nothing. so on Oct. 9th I called and left a message with his RN. she always calls back within 72 working hours. there was the weekend and Monday was a holiday. I am pretty patient ( I am a nurse and know how awful it can get sometimes) She called me on the 16th said she would do the consult and DR would have to sign it and if I hadnt heard from Tricare by Nov 3rd for me to call them. low and behold patt called me on Friday.the 17 and said they are now doing the surgery at the base hospital and I have appt with him on the 23rd. I dont know if I am approved or not. MyPCP was not to concerned about my attempts that have failed over the years that my surgery would be approved for medical reasons. I am on disability because of osteoporosis. last Aug he told me I would never work again that was Aug 28th my birthday and on Sept 19 my social security was approved on what records he sent them. I did not see their Dr or anyone in rehab. SOOOOOO I have complete trust in my Dr and that is a good feeling. my medical record has almost as much in in since April of 2002 ( when my back said NO MORE!!!!!) as it did all the time I have gone to Patt and my husband retired in 81 so have been going there since.\ Are you a active duty dependant or retired and where do you live. maybe coming here might be possible who knows I am sure tricare would rather a Milatary vs civilian hospital. The DR name they gave me is DR.Vesco I cannot find him anywhere in my computer I looked thru all 50 states and DC.
