I couldnt help but get caught up in all the posts about death

especially since my surgery is not far off. While doing my research(of

wich I did ver intesly)I also found out that 1 out of every 200 have

complications and die,but my answer that I could not find out about

that number is how many of those deaths are attributed to the

patients own negligence. For those of us who did plenty of research we

noted that weeks before the surgery we should be taking in plenty of

water and getting well hydrated and also walking .We also noted that

we should be drinking plenty of water after surgery and also walking.

One has to wonder just how many of that 1 in 200 die to to their

negligence and not the fault of their surgeon.

Please keep in mind I didnt list all of the things we need to be

doing before and after surgery but just a few examples...

Hi - do you know where I can find a list of tips for PRE-OP care. I

want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks!

I think one thing that we all need to remember is that any surgery is

dangerous. Most people who have this surgery are well over 100 pounds

overweight and like me have several comorbidities. We are at extra

risk for any type of surgery, even something as simple as having your

tonsils taken out. There is a reason most of us have this surgery, we

want to be a more healthy person all around. Most of us would die of

one thing or another sooner than normal if we did not have the great

fortune to be able to have the surgery. I for one do everything I am

suppose to. I drink lost of water, only eat the foods I am suppose to

and I chew till it is mush. I also never take any kind of anti

inflamatory medication for any reason. Do what you are suppose to and

all should be fine.

Just thought I'd pop out of lurkdom long enough to throw in my

opinion...

For each of us, the WLS is a very personal decision. Are the co-

morbidities we have (or will have) worth the risks? In my case,

definitely! I was tired of sitting around watching life fly by,

watching my daughter grow up without the best Daddy she could have.

And with my weight and CHF I wasn't going to live another two years

anyway, so why not take the chance? Why not actually get up and DO

something rather than just let things happen to me? I've said it

before and I'll say it again...even after all my complications, my

only regret is not doing it a whole lot sooner.
