But I have heard this told to me by so many medical people that I know I am correct on this. Not just any calcium will do. I made the mistake of taking the carbonate at first and was told to get off of it and start the citrate. It is more readily absorbed and because of the malasorption issues we have after surgery the citrate is what is more absorbed. No way , absolutely no way, would I take just regular calcium. I researched this for many many months prior to surgery and still messed up and took the carbonate. So I researched some more and found out I was wrong. I listened to whom I shouldn't and almost made my bones pay the price. Wolfie Leeds, Alabama Lap RNY August 27,2003 Dr. Lee A. Guest guest
I spoke with my surgeon about the calcium thing and he said that citrate is absorbed better so he does recommend it....carbonate is ok but wont be as good as citrate and you wont absorb as much....just my surgeons opinion Pre-Op LapRNY Surgery Date 10-21-03 Dr. K. Guest guest
Mandy, I don't think I want to know how big they are! At least my doc says to wait until 6 months, so I've got awhile. They did say though to make sure it was calcium citrate, not one of the others. I'll be watching to see any suggestions.
