Guest guest
I have a question, not one of you had anything to drink or eat the day you had surgery? Not anything? Maybe I am weird because I was allowed ice chips, water, Gatorade, juice and broth. Although it was mostly the ice chips that I " ate " . Is this unusual?>>> This is highly unusual! Anything on the stomach during surgery is potential for disaster... aspiration and an pneumonia would be suicide... I know with open, they do the leak test during the surgery and with lap, its done the next day. Maybe it is lap patients who can't eat or drink anything until after the leak test. I had lap and they did a leak test DURING surgery using blue dye in the solution because I remember being told this in nutrition class and for us to tell our family so they wouldnt be alarmed that the blue all over our lips was from lack of oxygen. And the next day before I was allowed liquids I had to take the barium drink and could see the little pouch with the fluid going in checking for leaks. So yes, in response to your " with lap,its done the next day " this is true but with me it was ALSO done after the surgery but before being closed up.
