Hi everyone. My name is Shenise and I live in Atlanta. I knew I had

to do something when a guy I was seeing told me no one wanted someone

fat. I became embarrassed to be seen and nothing fit right. After

starting a walking program 3 months ago and losing 10 pounds only to

regain 22 pounds, I went to a doctor for a breast reduction at the

suggestion of my PCP. My breasts are a DDD and hurt my back. He told

me I was too fat for a breast reduction and suggested gastric bypass

surgery. I had heard of it and did a little research. I even

attempted to get an appointment with an Atlanta surgeon, but he kept

losing my paperwork. This is a different surgeon and the office

seems nice and friendly. I don't know what to epect, but I know I

don't want to be fat anymore.

Welcome Shenise---you are not alone, all of us have had some

experiences similar to yours and feelings of shame. Congratulations

to you for making the step to research this new way of life. Keep

reading this board and if you have specific questions, sing out. You

will find we are helpful and non-judgemental. Best of luck in your

quest for a better life which is possible with this surgery.

Hiya Shanise and welcome! It took a lot of courage to come here and tell us

your story, people you don't know. I am sorry you were faced with so much

negativity towards your weight. :( Both your " b/f " and " doctors " are not

seeming to be good people. I would suggest looking around for another surgeon

(or

have you found anoher, and misinterpreted your words above?) I hope you find

the support and friends you wish to here on this board. Take care, be well,

much love!

Thank you to " Master Akane " for allowing me to use this quote in my

signature.

I am not aware of who the originating author is. But it's too true to pass

up.

It's how I feel as well. Enjoy it. :)

My only regret is I didnt do the surgery sooner........I know just how

you feel and so does everyone else on this board. It is a life-changing

and life saving procedure and nowadays has a very low incidence of major

problems (tho of course they do happen). Your library may have books on

the subject - just march up and ask where they are, also Carnie

wrote two books about her own wls surgery which are good. The internet

is chock full of info - there are a LOT of us!!! Try ObesityHelp.com

Its a wonderresource, even has a doctor list.

Kepp us informed of your progress and I wish you best of luck and

big hugs!!

No, I have not been to any other site. I was trying to go to Dr.

Titus Duncan, his office kept losing my stuff. Now I am going

through Emory. They are supposed to have one of the best gastrology

clinics in the country.
