Guest guest
Actually the omegas are supposed to help lower cholesterol. Ironically ph has low (below normal) cholesterol...which suggusts again, fat malabsorption. Has anyone else had cholesterol checked on their kids? High cholesterol in children is rare outside hereditary disorders of cholesterol...but seen more and more in " metabolic syndrome " and all the type 2 diabetes that's cropping up. So if there are frequent trips to Mcs, and your child is obese...more important to check for high cholesterol. > Hi all > > Just wondering if anyone is getting their kiddos cholesterol checked > along with all the other lab work. Guest guest
The NIH info I read said that Omega supplements can lower total cholesterol but can actually raise LDL. I am wondering about all this because most of the literature linking lower cholesterol to Omegas is about Omega 3 - not 6 or 9. I am wondering if it is the extra 6/9 that are causing problems. I can say we rarely eat Mcs type food - maybe once a month. Will has a very self-restictive diet of carbs & fruit. I am switching to the EPA (mostly Omega 3) for myself this week and will keep everyone posted when we get my son's checked. I am a little worried that if we have a genetic tendency that we may be setting ourselves up for problems down the road with these doses. Guest guest
My 3 year old son just had his cholesterol checked in March. It looked very good, especially in light of the fact that his genetic disorder is associated with elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, and that his test was not fasting. (would be nearly impossible to get a fasting blood test in him!) He has been on omegas since January.I attributed his good cholesterol numbers to the omegas. Guest guest
Abnormally low cholesterol here too.(not anymore, but it was when we started attacking speech issues as a metabolic issue) > > > >Actually the omegas are supposed to help lower cholesterol. > > > >Ironically ph has low (below normal) cholesterol...which suggusts > >again, fat malabsorption.
