Re: what has helped your child the most with receptive & articulation?

I think PROMPT therapy & Focus Factor (they were started at the same time), I

decided on the focus factor (before I found this group) because I had found

research that supported the use of magnesium and B6 for apraxic children. In my

opinion, this has been what has helped my son the most right now. As a matter

of fact, he is starting to " articulate " his own words now. He just came up to

me w/ his hat & said " helllllPPPPPPP " , i said, ok, what do you need help with?

(even though I saw the hat in his hand), he said haaaaT.

i just started the fish oil yesterday, so I can't say if it helps or not...at

least not yet...but fish oil is very good for you, so if for no other reason,

its great for his heart.

My son has some hyperactivity & impulsivity, not enough to effect him to the

point of being on stims, but enough that it might hold him back from gaining all

he can from ST. That was one of the reasons for Focus Factor.

Good luck to you. Hope you find something that works for your child.

Hi,

I'm wondering if I can get input from everyone/anyone if there's

anything that has helped your child gain receptive abilities, and/or

their ability to articulate. (My main concerns with my son.) We've

been on Omega Jr. (up to 4 a day now) and vit. E (400 IU/day) for a few

weeks now. We haven't seen any major changes. I'm a little

discouraged right now (we're also on some potent vitamins- he should be

an extremely health kid but instead he keeps getting sick...)

Thanks for any help you can give-

M. (mom to Nate, age 3)

My son's receptive abilities are still a work in progress and he's 5 y.o.

He didn't begin to speak his first words until he was 3.5 y.o. and

sentences at around 4.5. So, my thinking as he continues to increase his

language abilities and his vocabulary, the receptive will follow. It's a

slow process...

Thanks- I've heard other talk about FF so I'm taking a look at it. I

actually have a sample of Kirkman's B6/Magnesium chewables in the

cupboard that we haven't tried yet, so maybe I should.

Some days are harder than others & his inability to tell me things can

get me down. You all know what I mean.

Thanks,

I definitly know what you mean. My son was trying to tell me he

wanted a cup of water when he was brushing his teeth this morning. I

couldn't get it until he actually went & got himself a cup.

There's good days & bad days.

Let me know how the mag/b6 goes.

We are trying the b6/magnesium chewables from Kirkmans. I have not

noticed any difference, so I think we're going to stop soon. My ds

has been taking them for over a month now on high doses, so I think

we've given it a pretty good shot. And he really hates the way they

taste. But I have heard that it does work for a lot of people. I

think we're going to try adding DMG, instead.

I hope the DMG works for you, I know it does for some- we got a

sample of their DMG (liquid w/Folinic & B12) & it made my son bounce

off the walls/get way too hyper. I think it has to do with

methylation & such -stuff I don't understand.

Best Wishes,

M.
