Guest guest
We do both. We have a Kaufman Kit that we had to figure out for ourselves but we did figure it out. It is kinda straight forward. Anyway, we use the Kaufman Kit at least once a day, sometimes twice. Our daughter just started PROMPT therapy and we're seeing some progress with that as well. I think they both serve a purpose. After observing PROMPT I'm very glad she started but I'm also glad that I didn't just hold out for PROMPT alone. I think the Kaufman Kit has really helped her learn more articulations and has helped intelligibility greatly. Once our daughter started realizing we could understand her more and more, she became even more motivated. Now she brings me the Kaufman cards as a reminder that we need to do our " homework " . Hope this helps. Kris Mom to Grace age 35 months. On Feb 14, 2007, at 6:41 AM, cheli_english wrote: > Hello! > > I'm very new to the group and I'm so grateful that this group > exists. Guest guest
HI, My son is 32 months old and has apraxia. He has been in speech therapy for 6 months now. His speech therapist uses the Kaufman method and we also have a kit to use at home. He loves doing the cards and has made huge improvements. He also goes to an Infant /Toddler program which is great. We also started him on fish oils in January and I had seen improvements also. We call the fish oils " talking medicine " . Good luck to you!!! Sue California cheli_english <chelif@...> wrote: Hello! I haven't noticed any obvious motor (fine, gross or oral) problems, but I need to be sure. I don't know what to do. I know she needs more therapy, but I don't know what is best. Can anyone share any wisdom about the Kaufman method and/or the PROMPT method? Thanks. Cheli --------------------------------- Need Mail bonding? Go to the Q & A for great tips from Answers users. Guest guest
Hi - what matters more than the method is the actual therapist. Don't get too wrapped up in one kind of therapy over another. Remember that the kits and training all COST MONEY for the therapists and many can't get it paid for by their departments. I've seen so many people who get all wrapped up in one therapy or another and lose sight of the fact that there are FABULOUS and well trained therapists ready to work with their child right there. I've also seen people get roped into using a therapist bc they're trained only to discover (after alot of lost time) that it just isn't a good fit. Keep your options open - and ask the therapist!! > > > Hello! > > > > I'm very new to the group and I'm so grateful that this group > > exists. I have a 25-montn-old daughter. Guest guest
My daughter does the same thing. She really likes the cards. She has gotten to the point of being confident enough to talk on the phone, and people are saying they can understand her even better, now :-) We've been using them for about 2 months now. She is also making great gains with vitamin E, too :-) Aubrey Kris said: " Now she brings me the Kaufman cards as a reminder that we need to do our " homework " .
