hi,

i am not from mass but from new england anyway. i am from new hampshire . i

have you tried children's hospital of boston? i know of people from here that

bring their children there for specialized healthcare. they are one one of the

number one choices to send children in my area. the other two are dhmc (CHaD) in

Lebanon, nh. ( they are awesome i go there all the time with my son. their dev

peds are good.) the otther one is fletcher allen healthcare in burlington, vt.

all three are rated the top in childrens hospitals in new england. Where exactly

in mass are you located?

Hello,

I am from Massachusetts. We just took our son to Children's Boston

Hospital. He saw a developmental Ped. and a Psychologist. They

definitely know their stuff. However, they don't believe in the

biochemical treatment for apraxia (but will tell you to do whatever

you feel is best for your child). They believe in the traditional

therapies (PT, OT, Speech, ABA...). But they will give you a precise

diagnoses if that is what you are looking for. The waiting list is

long. I believe we waited about 7 months to get in.

Where are you in MA? North Shore Children's had some great people we

worked with. I would involve an entire team - not just one person.

(just my opinion). If you are near Salem Hospital, I'll dig out my

contact information.

We were done with our evaluation at North Shore Children's hospital

when Boston Children's called to see if we were still interested in

being on their waiting list. We had been on their list 6 months

before we listed with NSChildren's. The staff was excellant and

compassionate and we didn't have the time to wait around. We also

started the process with Mass General - - and all I can say is do not

waste your time. It is the same corporation as North Shore Children's

but all I can tell is that people make all the difference and the

people at MGH have been around way too long. I was horrified. THeir

pre-eval eval was 15 minutes in an old dev ped office. He declared

that we did not need a dev eval - just speech. I tol him that we had

a speech eval and they recc the dev eval and he said they were wrong.

It is definitely a crap shoot in terms of who you get to do the eval.

I am from Westfield, Massachusetts (near Springfield - about 1 1/2

hours away from Boston). Boston Children Hospital took about 3 hours

observing and testing my son. They had blocked out 4 hours but he

totally shut down and they felt they had enough. They had us (just

the parents) come back a week later for the results.

We are closer to Western Mass but will go to Boston or Worcester for

doctors as we have many times for my son in the past. Springfield is

easiest but not necessary.

I spoke with our ST again and we are waiting a bit before getting a

diagnosis and I am making an apt with the ped after her next

typanagram to discuss everything. I just wish that we could get a

true hearing test to rule out all hearing issues!
