Guest guest
We have been trying to get our insurance to pay for Ani's speech therapy . We got one eval paid. The SLP wrote this report saying Ani has " severe verbal apraxia " . And they recommended that Ani takes 3- 30 minute sessions of therapy per week. They did not mention the number of sessions of therapy Ani needs. The insurance approved it for 6 sessions total (3 hours ). They said after 6 sessions if there is improvement then they might give six more sessions. Well this does not make sense to me. One of the moms I was talking to at therapy said her son got approved for 70% (of two hours per week) therapy just because he has an autism diagnosis they did not even mention apraxia. I understand different insurances makes a difference of how much they pay BUT I am wondering if any of you know another way of getting extra therapy for apraxic kids. It feels like because of the wide spread of autism the laws are different. But for apraxia there is no knowledge yet. Well I am a little angry right now. It feels like it is time to make a change but don't know how at this point. Houry
