Very Interesting!

I had numerous level three ultra-sounds with my daughter diagnosed with

Apraxia, to rule out a twin that didn't survive and to look for cleft lip and

palate (her brother was born with).

For what it's worth. I only had one ultrasound at 19 weeks with my apraxic

child. And one at 22 weeks with my non apraxic child. My OB does not

believe in early ultrasound or many unless medically necessary. And my

insurance

does not pay for any unltrasounds unless they are medically necessary and they

did question whether or not the mid-pregnancy ultrasound was necessary, but

my dr does like to do that one. I do think my OB does a first trimester

ultrasound if they really can't date the pregnancy any other way.

Although my son hasn't been officially diagnosed (he's 26months) yet, I had

many, many ultrasounds because I contracted Fifth's disease around 14 weeks.

From that point on, we had weekly, sometimes, twice a week ultrasounds.....most

on his brain. I struggle with what happened every day and wonder if U/S was

the cause.

I had nine ultrasounds with my apraxic daughter. Six or Seven of them

were in the first trimester.

Hi-

I, too, had quite a few u/s - about 7. There were concerned with my

ability to " hold " the baby due to a previous LEAP procedure that

could potentially thin the cervix. It ended up not being an issue.

There are some who are definitely against ultrasounds being done routinely.

They say that they can and are causing brain damage, especially in boys, as

their brains develop later than girls, and most first ultrasounds are done at

the time when the boy's brain isn't as fully developed. They claim there is a

much higher prevalence of brain damage and also of left-handedness, since

doctors began doing ultrasounds routinely. They say that once the percentage of

people who are left-handed hits a certain percent of the population, then it is

considered to be a result of brain damage. And they say that the

left-handedness is definitely increased. They say that the sonic waves jar all

those tiny little brain cells and damage them.

I found an article to this effect online a while back. I haven't checked since

to see if there is more by now.

You know, in the days before ultrasound became the norm, dating the pregnancy

was determined through the date of the last period........Millions of

women--billions--from the beginnings of time, figured the due date by this

means. And you know, they did just fine. It's amazing how things have

changed, isn't it?

I had two U/S scans with both my boys and only the second has severe verbal

dyspraxia.

I only had one ultrasound at 8 weeks. I don't know about this correlation.

But then again, what do i know?
