Guest guest
The useful dosage range, at which Mu receptor sites are substantially blocked while the Delta sites are substantially unblocked, for naltrexone is about 1-10 mg/day daily. The limits of this range are not critical but below about 1 mg the therapeutic effect is quite small, while at levels several times above 10 mg at which these drugs have been generally administered in the past for other purposes, especially narcotic addiction, the effects of the preferential blocking action against Mu over Delta receptor sites disappears, since the amount of the drug is large enough to cause at least substantial blocking of Delta sites while the Mu sites remain fully blocked. A preferred range for naltrexone is about 1.5-3.0 mg/day daily. [low dose naltrexone] Re: Side effects of LDN? >> Hello Dave D;> > I have attached an excerpt from a patent submitted by Dr Bihari. Because of the rhythms of the body's production of master hormones, LDN is best taken between 9pm and 3am. Most patients take it at bedtime. People who have multiple sclerosis that has led to muscle spasms are advised to use only 3mg daily and to maintain that dosage. Rarely, the naltrexone may need to be purchased as a solution — in distilled water — with 1mg per ml dispensed with a 5ml medicine dropper. If LDN is used in a liquid form, it is important to keep it refrigerated. The therapeutic dosage range for LDN is from 1.75mg to 4.5mg every night. Dosages below this range are likely to have no effect at all, and dosages above this range are likely to block endorphins for too long a period of time and interfere with its effectiveness. http://www.low dose naltrexone.org/index.htm#What_is_low_dose_naltrexone
Guest guest
That's what I thought as well. In fact, I had a phone consultation with him just yesterday (my first, to get a prescription) and he said that 4.5 was the appropriate adult dosage. Guest guest
Oh, and what's the appropriate non-adult dosage? Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Side effects of LDN? Guest guest
Dave, it sounds like you did increase the dosage too fast. Are you taking LDN for MS? Not everyone can tolerate 4.5, even if they move up slowly. Dr. Bihari recommends 3 mg for people who have spasticity.
